Bringing good news to those Australian that were having trouble connecting to the Briggs server for recently launched PlanetSide 2, a new forum post by Veratu of SOE (thanks Reality) has detailed just what exactly went wrong on release, and ensuring that things are now fixed.

Initially beginning with what was called a "2 fold problem", a server/client bug was preventing players from connecting back after crashing out of the game or being disconnected. This issue was soon fixed up, but sadly more bad news came as Australians were affected by severe lag issues and disconnects - or in the unfortunate event of the Briggs server - being completely unavailable. Luckily though SOE's tech team was able to get onto the case, and things look to be working how they should according to the forum post.
I want to iterate what transpired in one spot so it's clear what occurred here. Before I do, let me re-state that every region that PlanetSide 2 runs in is configured, designed, and built the same from a hardware and infrastructure perspective. There is no one region that has a "better" setup than another. The only thing that differentiates them is physical locations in the world.

That being said, this deployment into Australia was definitely a unique experience. You guys have some very unusual laws and limitations that we simply don't see anywhere else in the world. (ISPs cap your bandwidth and download amounts? That's crazy! I personally will be investigating ways to make that better, if it's possible, with regard to our games.)
If you didn't happen to catch it, you can check out the latest trailer below for a great glimpse into what PlanetSide 2 is all about, including various explosions. You can also check out our community forum post for a list of regular members playing the game if you are ever in need of a friendly face on the battlefield.
