ArenaNet has revealed details on the upcoming Halloween themed event for their recently released MMO Guild Wars 2. The event will feature some very scary and spooky skeletons among some more festive styled dynamic events, including the hunt for the Shadow of the Mad King.
500 years ago, a tyrannical Krytan king was slain by his own people, those who had suffered greatly during his reign of lunacy. It is said that this king’s body was chopped into pieces, and his spirit was banished to the Underworld, but that he can return to the mortal realm for just one day a year: on Halloween.
Of course, that’s just an old folktale. Isn’t it?
It’s been 250 years since the last alleged sighting of Mad King Thorn’s spirit, and today, Halloween is safely celebrated by children (and merchants) all across Tyria.
But! Strange energies are rising under the autumn moon. Is there perhaps some truth to the old stories? Do you dare to find out what’s really going on?
The in-game Black Lion Trading Company will be offering free goodies for all, including costumes, hats, tonics and more. Also included are exclusive Halloween weapon skins which will be found in Black Lion Chests and Halloween themed mini-pets from the Gem Store.
The event will begin on October 24th and will finish up on November 3rd, however the event themed items will still be available for purchase until November 8th. You can check out the
official website for an overview of each act (currently locked until the day is reached) or check out the teaser trailer below.

Just topic diversion:

and the schedule:

If you want to put down 20, 50 or 100 USD.
https://beta.firefallthegame.com/founders/
Nathan Fillion, Felicia Day, Wil Wheaton, Mega 64 and the Extra Creditz are going to be on next week.
Eventually Firefall will be F2P. No I don't have any 'beta invites' left -- yet.
I also hope Red 5 Studios is going to go, the same way, Guild Wars 2 is doing everything; so it will give me more MMOGs to go back to that are just epic (I try not use MMORPG cause its cliche in this day and age; Even F2P is becoming a cliche in the term.)
When Free to play can mean:
- Buy the box with cash shop.
- Free download off the net; convenience & OR cosmetic items.
- Free to play with pay gateways
- Free to play with endgame gear in cash shop (hate this one -- insert most asianatic MMOGs here)
- Free to play with energy systems (depends how lenient and Spiral Knights and Farmville / Zynga I am looking at you.)
Really do hope for up and coming titles like:
http://www.warface.com/ - Crytek's new venture into free to play (cosmetic?)
http://www.warface.com/ - Not to sure about this one. We'll see
http://www.playhawken.com/ - Not to sure how this will compare to Mech Warrior Online. But my gut instinct says "Go with Hawken." Although one of my friends on my Steam list was ranting about how Mech Warrior online is awesome. So now I don't know.
Just hope for the right developer decisions not the wrong ones. I also hope that we can come in the near future to some sort of conclusion, compromise or absolution towards the subscription model. Maybe even potentially turn the MMOG into a TV series and vice versa; like Trion Worlds is doing with Defiance (http://www.trionworlds.com/en/games/defiance)
Potentially... if you think about it with the normalization of gaming we're on the core from the 2010 article on games into real life. People watch television (Ok I don't watch TV as much as I used to but... hear me out) if you get enough people involved in a TV series (For example: Lost or Breaking Bad) and couple that with a download service say on the console. You could turn the MMOG into a TV series and break what I like to call the "6th epoch" which is MMOGs into the social sphere.
We've had Barcraft; a lot of people already watch Major League Gaming (MLG) and we've already got a lot vested in Twitch TV. The problem is getting that audience and breaching the gap/divide. Just my thoughts on the recent gaming developments.
