Hammerpoint Interactive has today announced plans for their upcoming beta of The War Z, a zombie filled FPS survival similar to the very popular DayZ mod (and soon to be standalone) for ArmA 2. The news comes with a beginning date for closed beta, October 31st, which will see more than 1 million players registered dwindled down to a selective many.
However, Hammerpoint has also released details about a new pricing plan that will allow players to be guranteed access to the upcoming closed beta, with a few added goodies for the second and third tier plans.
Survivor: Closed Beta Access on October 31st and a special forum badge for a price of $19.49
Pioneer: Alpha access on October 15th (plus Closed Beta access), special forum badge, $15 worth of in-game currency, 1 month access to "Stronghold" map server hosting and 3 guest keys (2 days guest access pass on October 31st) for $29.99
Legend: Alpha access on October 15th (plus Closed Beta access), special forum badge, survivor name highlighted on leaderboard and in chat, $30 worth of in-game currency, 6 month access to "Stronghold" map server hosting and 3 guest keys (2 days guest access pass on October 31st) for $49.99
While details are still slim on what exactly the "Stronghold" map server hosting is, one can presume it will be early access to a new map other then the starting one, Colarado. Each tier of pre-order package will get access to the Closed Beta on October 31st plus the full game at release, however the benefit of buying higher gives you access to the Alpha version of the game, one that is currently being showcased.

I've bought the Legend pack as I am actually quite keen for this title. I was very skeptical to being with but after digging around and seeing the gameplay actually work well, I'm much more confident in it being good. It isn't DayZ, that is what you need to remember. It's more of a light version, with a mix of MMO and a bit less on the survival side.
The stronghold system sounds interesting, basically you get a personalised instance of the Colorado map with a few houses and some zombies. Loot does spawn but its quite rare to see anything good, and you can barricade the area for protection. You'll use it as either a clan base, your own personal base or a shopping area/market. All up to you it seems.
