Pre-orders for the the hotly anticipated Borderlands 2 have opened over on Steam, and to celebrate, Gearbox are reportedly offering 10% off for owners of the original Borderlands, if they front up the cash before this weekend is out.

The Australia Tax isn't too nasty on this one either, with the price currently sitting at US$69 on Steam if you're visiting from an Aussie connection and US$59 for North Americans.

Further, if you don't already own the original Borderlands, that's on sale too, at only US$7.49 (versus US$4.99 for North America Steam users).
A new era of shoot and loot is about to begin. Play as one of four new vault hunters facing off against a massive new world of creatures, psychos and the evil mastermind, Handsome Jack. Make new friends, arm them with a bazillion weapons and fight alongside them in 4 player co-op or split-screen on a relentless quest for revenge and redemption across the undiscovered and unpredictable living planet.
Borderlands 2 is due on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in Australia on September 21st 2012 (two days after the US launch, according to Steam).

Yet it's still cheaper to buy it from the US store without a discount.

10% off making the price for us $62.99 yet greenmangaming have the game for $59.99 standard. http://www.greenmangaming.com/s/au/en/pc/games/rpgs/borderlands-2/

If you choose to buy Borderlands ($4.99) or the GOTY edition ($7.48) on greenmangaming you receive a 10% coupon for borderlands 2. http://www.greenmangaming.com/s/au/en/pc/promo/borderland-deals/

That makes it about $54.

And finally ozgameshop have the same copy for $45.99 http://www.ozgameshop.com/pc-games/borderlands-2-the-premiere-club-pre-order-game-pc

or the collectors for $58.99 http://www.ozgameshop.com/pc-games/borderlands-2-deluxe-vault-hunters-collectors-edition-game-pc

What's with the Steam ad when other stores like GMG have no Australian tax at all, the same 10% deal and cheaper Boarderlands 1?

How hard is it to do a little googling to find some nondiscriminatory pricing for Australians before posting? Reported to media watch for lazy journalism.

calm down deadlyf, you get what you pay for in this world, and to my knowledge this is a free service.

Also, I forgot to mention, for those of you who've not used GMG before, they do host their own internal game client, but they also sell games for steam specifically (I've bought Duke Nukem Forever and Deus Ex: HR from them without a hitch.)
Just remember to have a squiz for the mention of steam as you're shopping, and also, if you aren't a GMG member, using this referral code you can accrue some credit for your next GMG Purchase!

This news article is about it becoming available for pre-order on steam...

Whilst a lot of games become available for pre-order on steam daily and yes not all get a news article, this one was highlighted for a few reasons... Boarder lands is popular... giving customers a discount if they have the first game is unique.

Don't be a tool.

The discount isn't unique at all, neither is the game becoming available for preorder at one particular location, which is kind of my point.

This serves purely as an ad for a service which charges people more because they are from Australia.

You make it sound as though I'm overly agitated, if that were the case I doubt I'd be making jokes like reporting it to Media Watch. I don't see why calling them out on this is a bad thing or why we shouldn't hold them to a high standard just because it's a free service.

Ausgamers in the past have had articles about discriminatory pricing so it strikes me as odd that they would give Steam free advertising while doing exactly that. Surely it's not asking too much for them to seek a few alternatives before posting?

I'm thinking of maybe holding off until they've released all the DLC, then picking it up as one big bundle and playing through it.

I'll buy a 4 pack today, wont be the UK price cos I don't have vpn magic and a valid overseas payment method, so it'll be $45 for a copy. Send me a message if you want one of the copies and we can arrange money and stuff. Couple of dollars more than getting it from ozgameshop, but imo, worth it for the convinience.

Just as an update, I didn't bother with a 4 pack because with the 20% off code from GMG, the Steam version only cost $40.
