Overnight Valve sent through word that they're kicking off a three-day celebration titled "Pyromania" to ring in a host of new game features for Team Fortress 2.
Headlining the week's activities will be the release of "Meet the Pyro" on Wednesday, the ninth and final installment in the "Meet the Team" series of TF2 video shorts. Stay tuned for more throughout the week.
You can hit up the official festivities page right here, which features a countdown to the headline event, and an option to check out what's on offer across all three. Today it's Doomsday, an all-new game mode, with seven new "Astro-chievements" to collect and the usual Valve comedy gold.
Doomsday pits BLU against RED, with only one team getting the honor of transporting a suitcase nuke full of recalled Mann Co. Australium to American monkeynaut Poopy Joe’s rocket, so he can blast off and hunt down Soviet space chimp Vladimir Bananas. It's the same spirit of competitive enterprise that stalled the moon landing by three years when Buzz Aldrin suplexed Neil Armstrong into a pile of folding chairs at Astromania '69! Both teams will attempt to get the necessary fuel up a preposterously slow-moving elevator and into Poopy Joe’s Australium-powered rocket to the stars.

Been a while since I played this, since that whole Valentines Day ring nonsense where people were paying $100 to gift a useless tf2 item (a valentines day ring) to other players.

Think of all the starving children.

While I don't even play TF2, I really love their sense of humour and all the fiction they create surrounding it.

I've stopped playing TF2 awhile ago, but I look very forward to watching their new video!

haha, from the tf2 blog

That only left the issue of what to call the update. Luckily, at the very moment we were thinking about it, someone turned on the radio. Guess what song was on? That's right: 'Safety Dance'.

"That's a pretty catchy song," we said. "Who sings that?" Well, we don't want to upset you, so we won't type it here, but suffice it to say the band that wrote 'Safety Dance' has the most unthinkably offensive name we've ever heard.

I love valve humour and only wish that they would do a full movie but I realise that wouldn't really happen. Looking forward to meet the pyro, even though I don't play TF2 anymore. The sheer number of weapons has just driven me away since there is too much choice now for my liking.

Yeah, same as others, I haven't played TF2 in over a year but definitely looking forward to Meet the Pyro.
It's been nearly 5 years since the TF2 release - Valve should settle whether the Pyro is a dude or a chick!

You never know:

”Adult Swim and Valve are teaming up for something that you’ll probably enjoy. To learn how their videogame peanut butter will be getting in our network’s chocolate, come back next week.”

At least they are thinking aboout moving into other fields of media, even if its likely to just be a short of some kind for now. A TF2 movie really would be so good.

I'd like to see TF3 be more like Battlefield Heroes.. minus the schlock that was Battlefield Heroes.
