We had a chance to chat with Relic's Quinn Duffy who is serving as game director on Company of Heroes 2 about a huge number of things, like what took them so long to get a sequel happening, had they thought about leaving the WWII theatre, building new game engines, expanding to consoles, post-release support, DRM and that all important Homeworld 3 question.

Here's a snippet:

"There’s a number of things that I think all of the big publishers are struggling with in terms of what’s next," Duffy told us in regards to jumping over to consoles.

"You know nobody knows what the next few years are going to look like from the standpoint of a business model and I’m focused on the creative, so I know as a tool, the console, until it can capture the purity of the experience and can deliver the same enjoyment that we can get on the PC I don’t see the Company of Heroes franchise moving onto the console."

I hope they allow it to become a Steamworks game. That'll be what makes it an instant sale for me. Some sort of ability to make user end content.

Otherwise I'm pumped. COH remains my favourite RTS.

Man, all the REALLY good games are being released in 2013.
I really hope they do support modders. By the sounds of the snow tech, that could potentially used for sand also. A really interesting mod set in North Africa could be made.

If people read the interview carefully, the man clear states they aren't talking about MP yet.

They are soooo excited about the campaign. MP is where the funs at, but the campaign was awesome fun too.

I hope they balance MP out more. If Germans get their tanks to level 3 currently, you might aswell quit the game.

MP did require bug fixes and balance but in automatch 1v1 where is was most balanced you shouldn't let wehr get to level3

campaign was so boring and this one will be as well :P

Happy to see a mention of Homeworld 3! Wasn't really a confirmation if they are actually working on it or not (pretty typical coming from Relic) but for what little it was it gives a ray of hope. At this point though I'd be happy to get Homeworld 1 & 2 on steam but that doesn't seem likely either.

I might buy Endless Space or Sin of A Solar Empire: Rebellion which looks pretty good but for my more personal tastes of detailed (and slower) ship destruction is lacking. Homeworld 2 did a nice job of a large ships death throes with its slow animation death roll and series of explosions before it goes boom... hope I see more slow destruction glory in 3 if they are actually making it. Why all the secrecy?

COH2 looks great though, can't wait.
