Square Enix has today shown off some new screenshots for their upcoming revamp of Final Fantasy XIV, the latest MMO in the series. Featuring new graphics options, a simpler UI, customisable skill bars, updated combat mechanics, new zones, new crafting skills and even Chocobos, this game update is set to reinvigorate the world of Hydaelyn.

You can check out just a sample of the screenshots below, but make sure you check out our game page for the rest of these jaw-dropping visuals.

Update 2.0 will be available later this year with the release of the PlayStation 3 title. Square Enix are preparing for beta testing for any current subscribers, and you can find a full list of features over here.

Yeah, because the graphics are the core of FFXIV's issues.

I was still fairly heavily into XI when XIV came out. Everyone in XI that tried it said it wasn't worth the purchase. No-one I know still plays XIV.

Midda, it isn't just the graphics that have received a touch up, it is basically a whole new game. Once beta testing begins I'll be able to give a proper report, but so far it's looking really promising.

If that's a simpler UI, I don't want to know what the old UI was like.

FF14 was a cluster f*** of mammoth sized proportions. They gave people like 2 free months play time to keep them going, and then cancelled the subscription fee for players just to keep it alive. Last I heard it had something like under 10,000 players. Then one of the head guys came out apologising for the pig s*** that they delivered so while they game does look nicer now and the UI better, i'll stick with D3 thanks. Not trusting FF14 again unless it gets amazing reviews. Which is a damn shame because FF11 was awesome and had some cool battle features as well as forcing you to be a team player.
