reports were coming through that Atlus would be closing down the multiplayer servers for the very difficulty yet highly enjoyable Demon's Souls, which was a sad day for many who had enjoyed the title. Today however marks a different day, with Atlus announcing that the multiplayer servers will be staying open indefinitely upon fan reaction.
"We're incredibly excited to be able to announce that the Demon's Souls online experience will persist for a while longer," stated Tim Pivnicny, Vice President of Marketing and Sales. "While it originally seemed as though it would be unfeasible for us to continue to sustain the servers, a number of developments have made it possible for us to continue to invest in and support our fans as they have continued to invest in and support us and Demon's Souls.
For all the gamers who have yet to discover the game's amazing online experience, we're happy to say you can still log on and find out why Demon's Souls is still regarded by many as one of the finest games of all time."
Atlus also motioned that while servers will be kept open, it all depends on user activity and that interest remains constant. So if you still haven't finished the multiplayer side of things, prepare yourself to die and experience one of the most brutal games before it's too late.

it really is built around everyone being connected to 1 server, it is hard to explain unless you have played the game.
someone else might explain it better, but the invading and summoning just wouldnt work if you were on a server with 20 other people. there are people constantly playing through the game at all different points and the whole point of the summoning system is that i can get to a boss and go `f*** this` and summon up to 2 random people who put their summon signs down near the boss and they will be summoned into my game and help me with the boss fight. once the area boss has been beaten i cant summon people again in that area. and you can only summon peole around the same level as you
ie. you dont jump into a lobby before the game and meet up with your mate and start playing
i did manage to play a game with ^rza off here we were talking over the psn messaging system and we agreed to meet at the same spot and he put his summon sign down and i summoned him and he got me through most of the level which was pretty cool, but it really isnt based around continuous multiplayer
