Lucky seven. That's the number of basic topics we cover in our feature outlining just why you shouldn't turn your back on Blizzard's next World of Warcraft expansion, Mists of Pandaria.

There's a lot of depth to the major changes the team have made to the game, and now that the beta is out, we'll be looking at the more hardcore angles down the track once we've had some serious time with it, but in the meantime, we've compiled a more generalised list of reasons to keep your interests firmly pointed towards the ancient and mystical land of Pandaria.

Click here to read the seven reasons we came up with.

7 reasons why not to play MoP

1. raids will still be easy besides heroic mode and only 1-2 bosses will actually be hard each raid.

2. 10-25 man is still in the game and thus raiding is retarded, should be 1 or the other.

3. heroics achieves = challenge mode, will still be easy unless they return the difficulty back to attunement days of BC with arcatraz / shattered halls, which they will never do.

4. dumbed down talent system even more makes it harder to customizse your character the way you want to.

5. another over powered class which will be stupid for the first 2 seasons of pvp, then terrible yet still be whinged about because it was so over powered in the first 2.

6. pve gear still usable in arena.

7. it's just another place hold expansion allowing more time for titan, blizzard don't give a s*** about WoW, remaking old content yet again in the new patch.

Sounds like most of your reasons really come to down to one reason, "I don't like the direction the game is going in these days". I mean, things like 10/25 man being retarded, or raids being too easy, are subjective things that are going to be different from player to player.

I don't get the criticism about the Talent system though, its long overdue, theres so many more interesting choices in this new one than there was in the old one. Saying the new one is "dumbed down" somehow implies the previous one required skill or intelligence to use, which is just so far from the truth. All it required was someone to go on the internet, find a cookie cutter build, spend their points then never touch it again.

pve maybe, not pvp.. a lot of people use specs with differences in them, and yer i don't like the game getting dumbed down so any none retarded guild can clear 85% of the content within a few weeks.

so it should go back to vanilla where only ~10% got to see raids like Naxx?

Also their best developers have most likely been moved over to Titan.

Any raid could see naxx, u just needed to be decent to kill s*** in it.

If it was going to go back to anything it should be TBC. Heroics which actually were heroic (well some of them). Attunements so you could actually do the bigger raids instead of just rocking in with trash gear and whinging it's too hard instead of putting in some effort to farm up a bit of gear.

The problem with what blizzard did was remove attunements so that idiots could immediately go into raids, fail because they had gear which wasn't what the raid required and b**** until it got nerfed.

Raids were cleared over a much longer period which stopped the "what do we do now period".

PvP went from control and skill to pop everything and zerg, land a full lockout on the healer and sometimes dies. Oh and PvE gear wasn't as rampart in s1-4 arena as it was in s5 to current.

Yeah, theres still not that many differences though, or that many choices, since theres so many talents you have to take either because you'd gimp yourself if you didn't, or because you need to put points somewhere to get to the next tier. So you'd really only end up getting to make maybe 4 or 5 choices at the most in your spec (and thats a pretty generous figure, it was probably more like 2 or 3). Now you still get to make the same number of choices (or more!), and the mandatory stuff you would have taken anyway, you just get as part of your class or part of your spec.

I think a large part of it really is just how its perceived. Its like this item level squash they've been talking about, and how they're not sure how to go about it because even if they scale everything down equally, so mechanically the game hasn't changed at all just the numbers are smaller, it can still feel like you've been nerfed just because you have less health/damage/whatever.

The new talent system, imo, faces the same sort of problem with being perceived as somehow simpler or more dumbed down than the old one, when realistically, it gives you a lot more meaningful choices than the old one ever did. Just because you had all these talents in the old system and you could put points all over the place, it wasn't really a choice for the most part.

I've played a hunter for about 5 years and while i'm pretty decent in PvE, in pvp I get f*****g rolled so hard. The hell am I doing wrong? I can't kill warriors, dks or rogues. I can't even scratch a healer. Paladins stun me for 5 seconds then destroy me but if i'm lucky I can do some damage before they bubble and heal back up then kill me. All I can seem to do is hurt mages, locks and sometimes druids.

Nothing makes you angrier in this game than doing pvp and feeling f*****g useless while everyone else just rolls over you. I don't have terrible gear or anything so idk whats going on.

why do wow 'pvp' players think that their class should be able to solo-kill every other class

I'm no PVP expert but my shammy struggled big time until I got gear, fixed my spec and updated my glyphs I just kite the melee around keeping them away and they die eventually where I can I'll thunderstorm them off a cliff to kill them by falling lol.

I'm keen for these changes, I'm one of the time poor casual players, I used to play heaps when I was young and I miss the 40 man raids but it's hard enough finding tanks/healers for a bloody 25 man it just wouldn't work any more, times have changed and Blizzard has done a bloody good job keeping up.

I don't expect to kill everyone 1v1. In fact I avoid 1v1 whenever I can but if i'm running along to reach the fight and a rogue jumps me, i'm stuck. I get stun locked to death. I avoid plate wearers because... well they have a metric ton of hp and good damage. Druids can just shapeshift out of nearly any cc I throw at em. I'm sure it'll get better with gear but the road to getting the gear is horrible.

Personally raider I think WoW has been doing that last few expansions. I enjoyed PvP more when it was like rock paper scissors, but the whiners have made it so every class can go toe to toe with each other nowadays (and by nowadays I mean 14 months ago when I last had an active sub :P ). I felt it was better when say agility classes destroyed clothies, clothies destroyed plate, plate destroyed agility users (kinda). It made the game more tactical. Now its like you said in your first post, frontloading big burst. Oh and unkillable healers.
Khel
Posted 09:35pm 29/3/12
I dunno what game you've been playing, but even when I was pvping on my mage back in vanilla it was about frontloading big burst damage. Arcane power + trinkets + PoM pyroblast ftw

now i'm not 'with it', but if you balanced everything 1vs1 wouldn't that make any 2 teams of whatever combinations completely balanced as long as the numbers of dudes were equal?

doing anything else would mean gross imbalances right?

wow just sounds f*****g retarded.

I can't wait for MoP to come out. Really looking forward to seeing all the new locations and cool artwork. The new talent trees look weird though so I dunno what to make of them. Just have to wait and see I guess. Also, I don't care if it's more of the same or the dungeons are nerfed. I prefer easier dungeons because I mostly use the dungeon finder. Nothing worse than being in a group and people are raging for one reason or another.

So a tank for example should be able to deal out as much damage as a rogue? A healer should be able to kill things as efficiently as anyone else? Everyone should be able to absorb as much punishment as a tank can? Yeah, your system sounds fantastic.

At the risk of using awful buzz-words, its about the synergies between different classes, and thats what keeps it interesting. If every class was capable of doing the same things, it'd get boring incredibly fast. Now I'm soooooo far from an expert on it, and realistically, I can't speak for how well it works in-game because I only pvp very casually, but its never been about people dominating by themselves. Like, I've played some BGs, and we had a group of 3 of us from my guild, me (as disc priest), a prot pally, and a hunter. Together, we were absolutely dominating, alone, either one of us would have got smashed. But when all three of us are working together it was just an absolute slawfest. And you gotta remember, its not just about taking damage and dealing damage, its about control as well, so you can't really boil it down to a clear-cut case of "This class does more damage, therefore is better at pvp".

I dunno, maybe for the hardcore pvp'ers WoWs system sucks, but I've always enjoyed it. Like I said though, I'm far from a hardcore pvp'er.

Yeah, got my beta invite too, download is at 90% with a 1.5 gigs to go but its going at 1.1 megabytes/second so shouldn't take too long. I dunno if they upgraded their services or the MoP download comes off different servers or what, but I'm getting way better speeds than I usually do through the WoW downloader.

I don't think theres any 85+ content or zones available yet, just the pandaren starting zones, and the new talents and stuff. So you can important your level 85 toons into the beta, and muck around with new talents and stuff, but no new content for them yet.
Mosfx
Posted 08:55pm 31/3/12
Yeah Khel is correct, I've imported an 85 Shaman and a 77 Druid I'm interested to see how it all pans out.

I think Blizzard have upgraded their servers, it used to take a good day to download anything of decent size from Blizzard, when I downloaded my D3 client I was getting 1.2/1.5 mbps. I'd download MoP now but I just don't have the peak download to spare.
Khel
Posted 12:28am 01/4/12
Heh, its pretty much unplayable at the moment, I made a panda and logged in and the starting zone was full of a billion other pandas, couldn't click any of the quest givers or anything, and the server was lagging horrendously to the point of being unplayable.

stuff i've been reading about the beta.

- Locks don't get green flames for their spells after being told they would. As you can expect the fans took this real well and said "oh well, we understand". lol kidding, there is a class action lawsuit thread over on the lock forums.

- Lol @ locks doomguard not being able to use axe throw because he is holding polearms (might be fixed by now)

- shaman lose their totems as primary buffs and gain them as auras I heard. Some totems still around though with cooldowns and will be better to use IMO. Not a fan of the 30 yard totem effect thing and having to relocate them all the time.

- hunters can call flocks of crows. that... is weird.

- Shaman also seem to get earth and fire elementals as pets? Or maybe they are just temp pets that you can control. Either way sounds cool.

Really getting into shaman class. First time i've played them since vanilla wow. Elemental Overload is awesome and won me many gank attempts as i've been leveling up. Not to mention healing is easy as hell now with riptide. Just cast it on the tank and wait till it's off CD again.

Played it some more last night, apart from it still being really crowded and it being really difficult to complete some quests because of the sheer number of people trying to do them, I was enjoying it a lot. The animations on the pandarens are absolutely awesome, if thats going to be the quality of the other races when they eventually update them, its going to be pretty damn cool.

New zones (well, zone I guess, since its just the pandaren starting zone atm) look great too, a few times I'd come over the crest of a hill and just stop to admire the scenery, I'm always impressed at how much Blizzard can do and how awesome they can make the environments look with such old tech, they really are the masters of doing a lot with a little. Music is great too, it manages to somehow be peaceful and epic sounding at the same time.

They put auto-attack back in for the monk though which was a bit disappointing, was looking forward to playing a class with no auto-attack, would have made it feel like a genuinely different experience, now it just kind of comes off feeling like a rogue with energy and combo points.

I've always enjoyed the art style of WoW. And i see a few things here things here that are very appealing. I followed it before its release date and wanted to play it as my first MMO, and did from release. After saying that, nothing will save it at this stage I feel that the gameplay formula is done.
You can't play one game for years and years and get the same enjoyment out of those tired game mechanics.
Just my own thoughts, but I've experienced waning interest in what happens with WoW with every expansion. Barely played Cata.
