Video Games Unplugged: Symphony of Legends is an event being performed by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, putting a awe-inspiring touch on some of the greatest video games ever played.
Would fighting a dragon be as much fun in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim without the epic musical accompaniment? Would Diablo’s rotting, wretched town of Tristram be anywhere as memorable without the moody 12-string guitar riff? Would the Final Fantasy series have sold more than 100 million copies if it weren’t punctuated with amazing sonic moments like One Winged Angel?
The music behind video games has come a long way since the early days, where Pong was simply beeps and boops. Now we have soundtracks full of brass, piano, guitar, strings and more, making video games just that little bit more epic.
In Video Games Unplugged: Symphony of Legends, the MSO will play music from leading games of the last ten years including The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, BioShock 2, Final Fantasy VII, Uncharted 2 and 3, Assassin’s Creed II, Soulcalibur V, Civilization IV, Secret of Mana, Heavy Rain, World of Warcraft, Diablo III and StarCraft II.
The event will also feature Scott Kurtz and Kris Straub of Penny Arcade TV’s Blamination’s and The Scott and Kris Show play host, and all-round gamer dude Wil Wheaton of Toy Soldiers, Stand By Me, Star Trek: The Next Generation and The Big Bang Theory will also appear.
The event is being held at Melbourne Exhibition and Convention Centre on Thursday, April 12 at 7pm. Tickets are $49 for adults which is a great price for really awesome music, and you can get them
