It seems that leaks and rumours are the flavour at the month this time of the year and if there's any merit to this latest one, we might be finding out more about the long-speculated Sim City 5 very shortly. Joystiq is reporting on what they call a "pre-visualisation" trailer that has found its way online and very convincingly appears to be an early concept mock-up for what a debut trailer for a new Sim City game from the EA-owned Maxis studio would look like.

If the details derived from the trailer are to be believed, it indicates a reveal of a new Sim City game at this week's annual Game Developers Conference in San Francisco and projects a 2013 release date. You can watch the youtube video embedded below (assuming it hasn't been taken down by the time you read this), but don't adjust your monitors as it's not supposed to be in motion (think storyboard art as a concept for a trailer yet-to-be-made).

Joystiq is also quick to point out that the expected "5" is absent from the logo at the end of the clip, indicating that like many other recent revivals of historic franchises that it might be more of a reboot than a sequel -- not that there was every any continuity between the games in the popular city-building series.

AusGamers will once again be on-site at GDC 2012, so we'll be sure to report our findings as soon as the splines are sufficiently retriculated.

Holy Reticulating Splines Batman! I was only recently thinking about SimCity and how good it was, I cant remember if it was number 3 or 4 that was balls though.

Anyway hopefully this one is nicely complicated with plenty of micromanagement options if you want it. I hate the idea of a dumbed down consolified SimCity.

Finally I can uninstall SC4?! Had these games on some sort of PC since my old C64. I'm guessing it will have a lot of interaction with and new The Sims series.
