Warner Bros. Interactive have given a release date greenlight to Gotham City Imposters, their team-based first-person multiplayer romp set in the Batman universe, but not starring Batman. We can expect the download-only title for all three platforms on January 11, 2012.
Gotham City Impostors is an original download-only first-person shooter where up to 12 players battle for control of an unhinged Gotham City overrun by Impostors inspired by the DC Comics characters Batman and The Joker. Gotham City Impostors is an online multiplayer game unlike any other, giving players the opportunity to engage in unconventional urban warfare as they personalize their own Impostors. Gamers will create their very own version of the Bats or the Jokerz characters using unprecedented customisation options including insane costumes, homemade gadgets and a wide range of traditional and inventive weapons. The game will feature maps and modes inspired by DC Comics’ Batman license.
There's one new screenshot for the game, but in case you haven't checked out the game yet, just hit the thumbnails below for a closer look.

If they were no name developers (and having not seen the preview code myself yet) I reckon I would have totally written this off because the concept really doesn't appeal to me. But some of the FEAR games had pretty good multiplayer and I have enjoyed a lot of Monolith's other stuff over the years, so it's still in with a chance.

We shall see.

Could be a nice distraction from the glut of "serious" multiplayer games out there at the moment. Looks like it has that NOLF "feel" to it (which is a shame that they don't just reboot that series instead).
