A year on from the Xbox 360 Kinect launch in November 2010, Microsoft appear to have finally started an official push for the motion controller hardware outside of games on the Windows PC platform.
Back in June, we saw the release of an official SDK and of course, enterprising tinkerers have been hacking different applications since the very start, but for all the Wii-esque games we've seen on the Xbox 360, much of what many of us see as the device's real potential has remained laregely untapped. Hopefully that's about to get a shot in the arm with today's announcement.
Marking the November 4th anniversary of Kinect, Xbox 360 today announced that the Kinect for Windows commercial program will be launched early next year. The commercial program will give businesses the tools to develop applications that not only could improve their own operations, but potentially revolutionize entire industries.
Check out this video that Microsoft have put together to conceptualise some of the potential non-gaming users of the Kinect hardware.
