Valve have sent through word they'll be celebrating four years of success with Team Fortress 2 and the first full year of user-generated, and sold, content through the TF2 Mann Co. Store, with a significant update they're calling the "Manniversary".
The Manniversary Update includes several new features, including Steam Workshop, an improved item submission system that allows community item-creators to test, share and track the status of their creations. The entire TF2 community will also be allowed to participate by browsing, rating and offering feedback on all submitted items. The Steam Workshop will be fully integrated with the Steam community.

In addition to the Workshop, the Manniversary Update will also ship 30 new hats and cosmetic items, an item decal system, weeklong "try before you buy" item tryouts, loadout presets, multiple miscellaneous items slots, improved game performance, and a new taunt. The Update is one of the largest and most ambitious in TF2's four-year history.
Valve has also initiated a sale in the Mann Co. Store that will run until October 17th.

"The 'Mann Co. Store' represents an important new direction for games and game makers," said Gabe Newell, co-founder and president of Valve VIA PRESS RELEASE. "By leveraging and extending the platform features of Steam, Team Fortress 2 has enabled a viable marketplace for independent content creators and significantly extended the gameplay experience in an incredibly short amount of time."

If you've ever created and sold something through the Mann Co. Store, drop a line about your experience in the Comments section.

Played this the other day after who knows how long (around pyro's Backburner release maybe?).
The game is unplayable and stupid these days, it's designed to appeal to kids now.
I deleted it :/

F*** i love this game, it's epic fun, but seriously, what the f*** is up with Hats and apparel...? Seriously, it doesn't boost or affect your performance so why the f*** does anyone care?

The other day some bloke traded me 3 weapons for a hat.. i win... go wear your hats u freak

Which he could then trade for many more weapons. It takes 2 weapons to make a scrap, 3 scrap to make a reclaimed, 3 reclaimed to make a refined. The cheapest hats normally run for around 1.33 refined (1 refined + 1 reclaimed)

I must admit though the amount of hats is getting out of control and the people desperate for them are starting to ruin the game. I've had people join servers just to ask for a trade and then they are always trying to low ball me. Still enjoy the general gameplay immensely, but the TF2 crowd has changed dramatically.

I prefer trolling them, go along with the ridiculous trade. You put the item/s into the trade and then click the first confirmation, and just sit there as they try to explain to you how to hit the second confirmation button.

Saw the patch come in this morning. It was stable (if you didn't count the backpack issues) and then another 100mb patch came down and since then the game has been crashing roughly every 10-15.

Lots of whinging on the steam forums.

Edit: Solid as a rock for an hour now. Must have been some server side patching on the fly because I haven't seen any client files come down.

woah guys, settle down. The hats are supposed to be 'fun'. The game is supposed to be fun. I really hope that allowing people to personalize their character with some crazy hats and a splash of colour isn't killing it for you. The game has amazing design, a gentle learning curve with a massive skill ceiling for God like players. The graphics are epic, stylized and gorgeous. The game is free and continues to be updated. Your complaint is "grrr...stop giving me free hats! grrr". Ok, if that's your biggest problem with the game, it must be the best game ever cos your complaints are stupid (no offense), really f***en stupid (no offense).

Phar4oh you should read their posts again. They're not complaining as much about hats as it is more about players who are completely obsessed with hats.

They do add a fun element to the game but it's just that there are wankers out there who only play the game because of hats. Great for Valve's hip pocket but is it doing the game any favours? Not really.
