CD Projekt RED have released the promised v2.0 patch for The Witcher 2 and -- much like the Enhanced Edition update for the original The Witcher -- the free download not only addresses bugs and adds more polish, but also features some tantalising new game content.
Here's a couple of snippets from the feature-set:
- Completely new, extensive Tutorial System that helps players fully enjoy the game from the very beginning and systematically explains the depth of The Witcher 2’s combat and gameplay mechanics. It allows gamers to gradually and smoothly immerse themselves in the game world and Geralt’s adventures.
- The new Dark Mode difficulty setting that presents players with a new challenge, the highest level of difficulty where every foe is now a significant challenge requiring careful planning and consideration. Dark Mode also features several new sets of equipment and items all linked together through a dark legend in the game journal.
- Completely new arcade-style Arena Mode that is infinitely replayable and progressively more challenging. Arena lets you hone your combat skills and techniques against all the different monster types from the game. Dispatch wave upon wave of progressively more difficult enemies, earning awards that you can use to upgrade abilities, experiment with new weapons and armor, and to test your alchemy skills. Hirelings can also assist you in battle—for a price.
- Technical Bliss: Version 2.0 includes all previous and new technical and gameplay enhancements such as:
• 40+ new technical and gameplay enhancements
• 100+ previous technical and gameplay fixes
• All 9 previous DLC packs
The patch and the comprehensive list of its contents can be obtained either via the game's auto-updater, the
official website or locally
here on AusGamers (900MB).
For those that already own the game, this is a great excuse for another playthrough. For newcomers, The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings (
AusGamers 9.0/10) can now be picked up from the
awesome DRM-free GOG.com for US$29.99 with no regionalised pricing garbage.

I couldn't even get through the demo of the original game. I really didn't like it at all. The sequel plays really differently though, it's almost like a grown-up, hardcore gritty Zelda-type game. It's not point and click anymore.

And the witcher 2, well worth it just to support one of the last few honourable PC gaming devs left o.0
