Relic have updated Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine with the following:
Patch Notes:
Added mute all functionality and push to talk
Fixed ‘butterfly’ exploit.
Update matchmaking parameters to search for local matches longer.
Fixed a crash when cancelling a search
Fixed an issue where profile progress would not be saved properly if steam cloud was disabled.
So this game might actually be playable online now, rather than us Aussies being matched with Russians... promoted/edited forum item

it is bulls*** that it took more than a couple days for this to come out... all the while interest in playing again leaking away.

Wait, what was the online component of this game?

They must of been too busy creating DLCs to patch the game.

I play Space Marine and enjoy it, but I expect a metric crap ton of DLC to be released for it. Right now it feels a bit limited due to is marines vs marines, I'm sure they will release more races and then have a b**** of a time balancing the sides.

haha brilliant news update / post tidy up :)

Yea this game screams for an, at least, 4 player co-op against hordes of orks. It's suffering the same issue as Bulletstorm. An ok game that would be awesome with co-op components .

What is the ‘butterfly’ exploit?
paveway
Posted 11:11am 23/9/11
yeah i'd like to know what that exploit is

also i'm surprised at how much i'm enjoying the multiplayer component, with this update it should be easier to get a better game

I vote for a mode kind of like the black ops zombie mode. Hold off the waves as long as possible while upgrading your weapons. Only replace zombies with orcs or better yet, tyranids.

EDIT - this is the exploit they fixed

They already announced that the first DLC will be a 4 player co-op against hordes type of thing, and that it'll be free

Oh the patch, awesome !!!

Level 31 and counting, loving this game.

Would love a dedicated server option, its a pain finding good servers.

Just tried to play this game again. Every player except 1 (who had a green bar surprise surprise) had red bars. The lag is pretty much unbearable and i'm sick of being killed by melee attacks when i'm bloody ages away due to positional lag. Pretty much done with this game which is a damn shame, only lv 6 in multiplayer too.

Actually really enjoying the multi player but I wish that there was dedicated servers... The lag can be horrendous!

Agree an Ausgamers review would be nice! This game got mostly around the 7.0 - 7.5 range, but I think it's an 8 and a potential 8.5 if Mutliplayer gets smoothed out and Co-Op is added. Also a bonus if you dig the art style / Warhammer universe.

It's on the TODO! I think.

Grabbed this earlier on and I'll be damned if I'm not enjoying the hell out of the multiplayer, lag & all. It could just be that I've fluked a few good games, but there's something satisfying about running around blowing s*** up as a Space Marine (even if I suck).

finding just about all the games i join this afternoon i have a good ping

sucks when the host migrates to someone s***, but not much can be done about that i suppose

^ Definitely agree with this! It's strangely addictive and satisfying... Surely they will enable dedicated servers...

i love owning c**** with the stalker bolter

and i have alternate weapon perk so i can have the meltagun as a back up for when things get up close, thinking of changing it though it's too slow to reload.

thunder hammer is so satisfying though, landing in front of 2 guys and wiping them out with 1 swing

After this patch, the game now locks up for about 3 or 4 seconds every time I get to a save point, when it used to be seamless. Nobody else seems to be having this issue. :(

ive taken to running the buffed dagger perk with combat stims and just melee anyone that gets that close.

If you are good at aiming it from the hip its probably better to just drop grens at your feet, roll backwards and hip shoot them... but its more fun to stab people I reckon.

Does it also come with a sound stutter type thing? I never used to get it but somewhere along the way I started getting an ~3sec freeze with stuttering sound.

Nope, sound keeps playing fine. I restarted Steam and the issue didn't occur during my last play session, so I dunno, maybe it was just some weirdness with Steam.

Yeah, but only after you exit the game AFAIK.
