THQ have announced they'll be publishing stand-alone PC, PSN and XBLA versions of The Haunted: Hell's Reach, an Unreal Tournament 3 mod that walked away winner of the USD$50,000 "Build Something Unreal" contest run by Epic Games and sponsored by Intel. The Haunted Team who built the mod also walk away with a full commercial UE3 license.
You can currently
grab the mod for free if you own the core game, but THQ have announced they'll be releasing it across all three major platforms, with the PC version landing this October through their ValuSoft range at USD$19.99. The console versions are being targeted for release in 2012.
The Haunted is a fast paced thirdperson horror-action game with focus on a intense multiplayer experience that is all about making a stand and liberating cursed places from the minions of evil. The game features several multiplayer modes such as coop or demons .vs. humans, where enemies are spawned and controlled by players. The outstanding visuals lay a perfect tone for the gameplay.
While it seems a bit of a rort to resell the game on PC for a price, you can't help but feel good for the team who made the game and are now technically published developers.
