So after first announcing that Deus Ex: Human Revolution would be region locked on the PC, Square Enix have quickly backed down and decided that it wouldn't be a such a good idea after all.
We’re aware of some discussion regarding the planned region-locking of boxed PC versions of Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and after careful review we have decided not to implement this in the UK/Europe/US/AUS. Please note, this plan only related to PC boxed games, and not digital or console editions.
After this broke news earlier this week, ozgameshop.com announced they'd offer up a refund for anyone who'd bought Deus Ex from them. With the lock not going ahead, they still plan to honour this offer and will be giving people refunds if they want them:

We have just been informed that Deus Ex Human Revolution will NOT be region-locked and WILL indeed work in Australia. This announcement was made on Eidos’ offical forums: http://forums.eidosgames.com/showthread.php?t=119397.

After the mixed messages we’ve had this week, we understand that some of you may have ordered the game at local retailers and so it is still our intention to refund all orders made at ozgameshop.com.

Apparently its only roughly 14 hours if you skip a few side quests and dont read all the emails. And only 2 hubs as well :(

So don't skip side quests and make sure you read all the emails then :P I'm sure most games are shorter if you skip the content in them.

Haha yeah. I'm just amazed at the amount of console piracy, yet people are still shouting PC players are killing the industry.

Dungeon Siege III took less than 10 hours, doing everything. So 14 hours, skipping half of it, sounds good.

I think DA2 only took just over 10 hours as well...

Yeah, console piracy definitely exists, I think the main difference is the entry level for piracy on PC is so much lower, any noob with a torrent client and google can pretty much pirate a game on PC. Most consoles require at least some knowledge of the hardware and some kind of mod.

Mmm, its just interesting seeing, especially with Deus Ex, that console games are being pirated days, even weeks before launch. A lot of the leaks come from console games to. Also interesting is how developers are pushing for more console releases, wouldn't this increase the piracy of console even more, thus pushing developers back to PC?

Yeah I often see xbox 360 games out anywhere from 1 to 2 weeks before official launch. Meanwhile PC releases on the scene have slowed down to usually the day of/after launch.

didn't even know they had planned this. I was going to pick this up on steam only to then realize that its $20.

*Only* 14 hours for the main quest? Once you finish the side quests that's actually a pretty substantial game these days!

Online retailers have surely gotta be a little pissed about this Yes region locked/No not region locked faffing about.

Not sure why people would skip content, if it's plot & gameplay. Mine took 46 hours, and against expectations I enjoyed every (repetitive settings) second of it.

Wtf did you do for 46 hours, it took me about 28 hours and I didn't skip any content.
fpot
Posted 03:52pm 19/8/11
I am assuming that 14 hour figure came from the leaked full version of the xbox version. Ten bucks says that 14 hours was someone trying to finish the game as quickly as possible, so that makes it an even more impressive figure :)

I dunno, everything I guess. Wasn't really screwing around. Maybe the stats were biased by me leaving the game open for a day or something.

Most consoles require at least some knowledge of the hardware and some kind of mod.

Only if they intend to mod it themself.. otherwise they could just go to a shop, get a modchip, installed hey presto just torrent the game and play.

Yeah, but its still another hurdle that PCs don't have, and they'd have to know enough to find the places they could get it done, and then pay for it.

Have a copy of this from GMG available for someone who wants it. No first time posters though (more than 100 posts only).

PM me for the code. Money/sexual favours/pics of your mum accepted.

Bought a copy off ozgameshop, told it was region locked, bought a copy off gmg, oxgameshop told me the game wasn't region locked, confirmed I wanted it (I prefer boxed copies) tried to get a refund from GMG, they sent me the code so now I will have two copies.

Update: Code gone. Mantorok wins. Sorry to those that didn't win etc etc.

Aye, feel like we need a b****ing thread on the 'too many games these days' situation.

Currently really want to play, and haven't found the time for - GTAIV+Expansions, From Dust, Assassin's Creed 3, King Arthur, Civ V, Dragon Age 1(again)+2(again)+DLCs, BioShock2, Duke Nukem Forever, Abe's Exodus, Team Fortress 2, Trine, Tropico 3, Seven Kingdoms II, L4D2, Battlefield P4F, Shogun 2, Empire:TW, Settlers 7... But that's a First World Problems whinge, not actually a terrible thing. :P

Yeah same Crak. The first mission alone lasted me 1 1/2 hours on hardest difficulty and there was just so many different paths to take in moving around. Even really well hidden ones. Stealth take downs are just epic like sneaking up behind someone, tapping them on the shoulder and slogging them square in the face. Stealth works well too which is no doubt how i'll be playing the entire game to try and replicate a Thief style play.

Must buy for me so I got that Human Revolution edition on preorder

Ah s***, I got all excited when I got my key from Greenman gaming today, put it into Steam and downloaded the game, only to find out it was just a preload and the actual thing still isn't unlocked till the 25th :(

You should have given the code to momo so he can do the review for it.

Bought a key for $32 or so from CJs, activated today. They didn't tell me I'd need to use a Russian IP address to activate it on Steam, but I got a $1.99 single use three day VPN account and it's all activated fine.

Complicated, and Russian mobsters probably infected my computer with Super AIDS, but at least I stuck it to the local distributor :)

I just looked these guys up; that was the first I'd heard of them. How does their business model work? You can trade your games back in for store credit, but how much of your original credit do you get back? On the face of it it sounds like a really cool idea.

A lot of you use this greenmangaming, it seems a lot more expensive for me ... deus ex was 42 euros. I ended up buying it from this joint http://www.gamekeydistrict.com/ for 27 euros ? Wonder which is safer.

It was USD34 on GMG when you combined the 15% off deal they had for upcoming releases and a 20% off coupon. And people already have their keys from GMG.

They're not some dodgy mob selling keys from retail copies meant for Asia/Russia.

This game is receiving great feedback, getting keen. Even more keen that the same crew is making Thief 4 (last time another crew made Deus Ex 2 and Thief 3 at the same time, and both turned out a little underwhelming, maybe this can make up for it).

Just bought it from Greenman Gaming today. Used the 20% coupon on the Augmented Edition (the special on the standard edition ended while I was browsing the site) to get it for $39.13 AUD. Plugged the key into Steam, all good. Ready to preload.
