In a rather bizarre move, it appears that an upcoming patch for Duke Nukem Forever will be adding the ability to carry four weapons in the singleplayer -- a strange, untimely and some might say half-baked response to one of the game's most common criticsms. Gearbox Software's ChrisF brings the news in a recent forum post:
The development team has been hard at work combing through the feedback provided here and elsewhere, with updates based on this feedback currently in the works for all three platforms.

Among the changes coming to PC are a new expanded inventory option that allows you to carry up to four weapons in the single-player campaign, Valve Anti-Cheat System (VAC) support, push-to-talk voice chat, the ability to adjust FOV plus other fixes and improvements that are still being tested.
No other details were revealed, so it's currently unknown as to whether this will also be offered to the console versions in future. What we do know however, is that Half-Life 2 on consoles worked fine with a weapon selection-wheel.

Judging by the sentiment we've observed from disappointed Duke fans, perhaps it would be best for Gearbox to put this one behind them and focus on bringing us a new polished Duke Nukem game that doesn't spend fourteen years in the oven.

Could not agree more, it would be for the best.

All of those are good features, esp FOV-adjustment and a "normal" inventory system, but given how much people complained about wanting them, that should have been patched in within the first week or two - not 7+ weeks after release when no-one gives a s*** about the game anymore.

Yeah I don't blame them for attempting to extend the game's life cycle past 3 months since the game has been in development (and still) is for the past 14 years. The only thing is, it's a case of too little too late.

Still have this sitting in my steam folder. Might give it a try when this patch rolls out.

They say the game was balanced for two guns, I cant see how the 4 gun thing will work without changing the game up, i think it will just be an excuse to use the devastator for 90% of the game as basically any time you got that they didnt have an ammo chest for a while afterwards, forcing you to drop it for a second weapon.
(I would have rathered the game was designed for more from the start)

All too late, finished it a while ago. They should have just done the same as Duke 3d and had the ability to hold all weapons. Devastator ftw.
