In a rather bizarre move, it appears that an upcoming patch for Duke Nukem Forever will be adding the ability to carry four weapons in the singleplayer -- a strange, untimely and some might say half-baked response to one of the game's most common criticsms. Gearbox Software's ChrisF brings the news in a recent forum post
The development team has been hard at work combing through the feedback provided here and elsewhere, with updates based on this feedback currently in the works for all three platforms.
Among the changes coming to PC are a new expanded inventory option that allows you to carry up to four weapons in the single-player campaign, Valve Anti-Cheat System (VAC) support, push-to-talk voice chat, the ability to adjust FOV plus other fixes and improvements that are still being tested.
No other details were revealed, so it's currently unknown as to whether this will also be offered to the console versions in future. What we do know however, is that Half-Life 2 on consoles worked fine with a weapon selection-wheel.
Judging by the sentiment we've observed from disappointed Duke fans, perhaps it would be best for Gearbox to put this one behind them and focus on bringing us a new polished Duke Nukem game that doesn't spend fourteen years in the oven.
