A new post over on the official
Battlefield Blog today offers some clarification on the upcoming testing plans for the hugely anticipated Battlefield 3.
DICE Community Manager Daniel "zh1nt0" Matros explains that the upcoming Alpha test is a very exclusive invite-only shindig that's intended for more high-level server testing. If you make it into this one, it's likely because you have veteren status over on battlefield.ea.com, you're helping operate the servers they're running or you're a close friend of the DICE family. In short, chances are you're probably not going to get in on this one.
The Beta test however, is currently still scheduled for "September" and will be much more open. In addition to anyone that purchased the Limited Edition version of EA's Medal of Honor (the one with the Battlefield 3 Beta sticker on it), DICE is also expected to be offering up more beta keys through their social networking outlets (and hopefully also through media partners like us *fingers crossed*).
Battlefield 3 is due on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on October 27th 2011. For more details on the game's multiplayer component, hit up our recent
hands-on preview.

The graphics, weapons and even the bomb bip sound is exactly the same. Along with the HUD.

Kind of expected it from them saying they'll release BF3 in a year from finishing that MoH. Rushing it instantly came to mind as they were just done with the 2 games, BFBC2 still needing major updates & content even if no one cares about the other.
Environments looks good for some nice firefights but would be better if more teamwork oriented. Wasn't looking for some ARMA game but swishing out and firing a rocket launcher like taking out a stick and throwing it with one motion is laughable.
Overall, it'll be a fun multiplayer game with some memorable singleplayer scenarios. Hopefully they'll let the PC community mod their game but I'm not holding my breath.

So new features, new gameplay, new maps, new campaign, and a new engine, but its not worthy of being called BF3? What exactly would it have to do before you'd be happy with it being called BF3?
Also, game studios often have multiple teams working on multiple projects at once, so I'm sure they didn't finish MOH's multiplayer then start on BF3, it would have been different teams working on them. Just like the team on Diablo 3 doesn't make Starcraft 2 or World of Warcraft at Blizzard, or the team working on The Old Republic doesn't make Mass Effect at Bioware.

Why would they just go ahead and let people alpha test (for free) a large portion of the game when DICE themselves haven't even really shown off multiplayer yet?
Wait until we get some official videos of some multiplayer action, imo.

The worthiness of being called BF3 isn't as important as who's judging.
To me, BF3 signifies that it's the next installment to BF2 so I think the general consensus of BF2 players will be most important. That however, is an opinion itself but I think I'd be happy to digress knowing the general consensus. It'd also make me to happy to know they're not taking shortcuts or rehashing materials in crafting the game.
Yes, game studios often do have multiple teams working on multiple projects at once. DICE however, isn't a big company. They still can have multiple projects but manpower wise, it's more likely (or much better) 1 game at a time. You would be correct saying they didn't finish MoH multiplayer then start BF3 because it's more than likely that they started right after BFBC2 release.

Been playing alot of BFBC2 recently, and i dont like stepping out into the open, even in my own respawn area and dying instantly.
Some of the snipers out there are way too good, and it makes the game somewhat unfun.
Hope its less instant in BF3.

apparently they are making sniping harder. you need to hold in a key in time with your breathing to make your shot more accurate.

.
rarely played it on normal. there's usually enough cover to get from point to point without getting sniped anyway.

I'd like to see a return to BF1942 style indicators instead of the '3D' spotting hackusational BS...
'Target spotted' and then an icon in that area of the map... not 'HIS HEAD IS HERE \/'
