When ex-Infinity Ward head honchos Jason West and Vince Zampella very publically parted ways with Activision and formed their own studio, it was only a matter of time before word came through of what they were working on. For a while now, there have been rumours circulating that Respawn is working on a sci-fi shooter. According to an article over at
Gamepro, the rumours have proven true.
EA were the ones to unveil Respawn Entertainment’s plans for creating a sci-fi shooter that is reportedly being targeted as a major contender for stealing some thunder from the likes of the Halo and Gears of War IPs. EA Games president Frank Gibeau had the following to say:
“We'll sprinkle [titles such as Respawn’s sci-fi game] in where we see opportunistic gaps, either in a release schedule or in a genre standpoint. It allows us to compete with things like Gears and Halo and put them on places in our release calendar where they’re not cannibalistic to the core business, and that’s the essential strategy going forward.”
Do you think Respawn has what it takes to tackle the mighty prowess of heavily established sci-fi titles such as Halo and Gears of War?
