Yesterday an entry on the official Rockstar Support forums hastily reassured players that the console freezes and overheating that some PlayStation 3 gamers were experiencing in L.A. Noire was not an issue with the game itself but rather attributed it to Sony's recent 3.61 firmware upgrade.

However, the support post in question has since been retracted and Rockstar and Sony have now issued the following joint statement, explaining that neither the game nor firmware update is actually responsible for the overheating, but stopping short of concluding what is:
We have received a very small number of customer support questions about PS3’s overheating or shutting down while playing L.A. Noire. At this time, Rockstar Games and Sony can confirm that neither L.A. Noire or firmware update 3.61 are causing the PS3 hardware to overheat. We are both committed to working hard to find solutions to this and any issues that may arise. If you are experiencing any issues with L.A. Noire or your PS3 hardware, please contact technical support using any of the means provided below:

L.A. Noire is now available for both PS3 and Xbox 360 and is awesome (AusGamers 9.5/10).

So basically they've narrowed it down to either a software or hardware problem hey?

It looks sooooooooo much better on PS3 though, was a hard choice but even with all these problems I still went for the PS3 version. If it was just really subtle, minor differences I wouldn't mind, but the gap is just too big. Kinda sucks, cos I would have preferred to be playing it on 360 :(

Is it really that much better ? Not trying to start a console war here, as I own both consoles...but from reading this comparison at Lens of Truth...they pretty much seem identical (except for the 1 disc v 3 disc thing)

There's no ambient occlusion on the 360 version, which is very clear in the link you just posted. The lighting on the PS3 looks much better because of it.

I thought the 360 version looked a bit sharper in some of the shots, the PS3 version looked a bit washed out. I think at the end of the day though, the differences are negligible...I dont think you would really notice once you start playing

360 seems to have better mip-mapping or texture filtering or something in some of those shots, some of the textures seem sharper, but the PS3 has the far superior lighting and shadowing and I think thats what you're going to notice more once you're playing the game.

my 360 elite 120gb model lags out the intro to LA noire..the part where its got the dude narrating and just when it says the title LA NOIRE, its chundering frame rate wise for 10 seconds before it fixes itself up. anyone else had that?

You could try installing it to your hard drive, it might just be reading tonnes off stuff off the disc and thats slowing it down.

I have all 3 discs installed to HDD. I install every game to HDD as the CD drive is ridiculously loud when it is running. I thought it was a once off but everytime i start a new game and the intro kicks in same thing. Its not a dealbreaker or anything but just surprised it happens everytime.
