Epic Games have released a trailer of their "Samaritan" demo, the impressive technology showcase that the developer was exhibiting at the recent Games Developer Conference event to highlight the recent additions to their popular Unreal Engine 3 software.

The most important thing to note is that although it might look like a pre-rendered cut-scene, this demo reel was actual exhibited running in real-time on their beefy demo rig at GDC.

Past Unreal Engine tech showcases have included scenery and characters from Unreal Tournament 3 and Gears of War so -- based on nothing but pure speculation -- it's reasonable to expect elements of this tech demo could also very-well be part of an unannounced Epic title.

Check it out below or click here for the HD option.

This was, I believe, running on brand new nvidia technology; I am not sure how much info is public about it just yet but I had a meeting w/ the Nvidia guy where they talked about it a tiny bit - it's basically an SLI rig, on a single card. So it's a pretty high end device for serious gamers.

term found this thing from AMD which is their closest offering but it sounds like the Nvidia one is still going to be the s***.

In the past Epic have shown demos like this and then made games from them. Epic Citadel/Infinity Blade for one. So heres hoping this happens aswell.

Trog: Over at Kotaku they have a cam version of this and the presenter showcasing it (Not show who) says three GTX580's is what this is running on.

Hopefully they can do this without increasing the power requirements of PCs... getting over 500W requirement is going to be excessive.

If you mean console ports at high res with lots of aa, then yes, but games made for pc with ridiculous graphic engines that only run on powerful pc's, then i doubt it.

When people are jumping up and down in their living rooms playing Sailboat Adventure 2 and they see those graphics playing on someones PC they are going to be all "what am I playing this sailboat s*** for?" run out and upgrade. People go where the graphics are.
