THQ have unveiled their new corporate logo, which they tell us is a visual reminder of the company's new direction and their drive to push through the games industry even further into the next stage of gaming's maturity.

"Our new logo epitomises the change, innovation and creative growth that are the cornerstones of the new THQ," said Brian Farrell, THQ President and CEO via press release. "By developing triple-A, innovative, original intellectual properties, attracting the top talent in the industry, and placing that talent first, THQ continues to redefine itself. This new logo seeks to capture that change and make it tangible."

THQ have been aggressively expanding their portfolio over the past five years, most notably with brand-new IPs and high-end acquisitions of some of the industry's most talented people.

"Over the past few years the gaming industry has seen an unprecedented period of innovation,” Farrell said. “You can see it in the deep, rich storylines, in the expansion of social and mobile gaming, and in the introduction of new technologies that enhance the gaming experience. THQ is proving its commitment to deliver the best experience to gamers through internally developed original intellectual properties (Homefront and uDraw), creative partnerships, (Guillermo del Toro and Tomonobu Itagaki) and new talent acquisitions (Patrice Désilets), in order to solidify its position as a flagship publisher of extraordinary interactive entertainment.”

What do you think of their new logo (pictured)?

I second it, TH Who? You need one of those little blurbs down the bottom ala press relesases, eg:

Previous for reference. Agree that new one looks s***. Don't agree with never changing your logo though - sometimes good to rebrand, especially with a major change in the company like new directors or what have you.

Haha, WetWired - now that you point it out...

Rebrands most often look 's***' because people are familar with the old. Give it some time and you won't hate it.

When the new ANZ rebrand came out I thought it was turd but it's okay now.

I still hate the new PwC rebrand though, it's just plain and turd.

Probably don't need to, I bet if you type "new THQ logo" into google it brings up ausgamers, does with 99% of the s***.

EDIT: Hah was just trying to be a smartass, it's the first entry on page 2.

You know how most people don't know who makes games just who publishes them. Two of the three Hog mentioned were also Relic while Iron Lore made Titan Quest and one addon for DOW1.

And this thread is 10th on page one of Google for me.

Yeah what he said. THQ = publisher. Relic did Company Of Heroes and Dawn Of War
WetWired

I know relic developed homeworld, but seeing as though torchlight was mentioned I thought people were bringing up games that THQ had published not developed.

Yeh THQ is primarily a game publisher ... thought that was common knowledge? Given that publishers pay the bills I reckon its fair to say that they "make" games.

/shrug the List of THQ games is pretty epic.

Logo's are supposed to be recognizable as its your brand ,can't tell what it is.

Who cares, other than the people who actually work there. Games publishing houses still think people buy based on who publishes the game, when the reality is that if a game is good, it will sell... If they wasted less money on logos and the like (this would have cost them a few hundred k), then maybe they could have invested in a few more games.....

shrug.

I'll just leave this here.
4. The identity is not the entirety of the brand and it's more important for the public to like the other stuff (experience, customer service, price, personality, and oh yeah - the product.)
5. And most importantly, the public really doesn't care. At least about the type and color over the short term. They say they do, but they don't. They do care about it being authentic and how it connects with them over time. (This is what you pay the experts for, by the way.)
6. The public's attention span is shorter than yours. Usually, the masses will forget the controversy and the new look will be established in short order.

Oh, and some professional opinion.

Trauma - it would have cost them packets because they would have used a series of agencies to create it; consult on it, research it and basically assure gun-shy executives that they were doing the right thing.

Large corporates like THQ just love wasting money on trash like this. It's the stuff of dreams for most marketing directors to create a new corporate identity, as this sort of thing doesn't occur too regularly.

This logo must have been created with motion graphics in mind? It will be interesting to see how it comes to life in video.

Otherwise the logo is ok, very stark, very modern. It seems to be less on a hardcore gamer aesthetic and more closer to an apple or wii type brand. It's lost a lot of the action of the old logo but gained sophistication imo.

It probably says a lot less about THQ which means it will sit just as easily on a casual title as it will on a hardcore title.

I just don't see a publisher with artists, lawyers and PR types going out of house to make a basic logo. Maybe some demographic consulting but overall I think they would have a handle on that.

Oh and THQ did Metro 2033 and MX Vs. ATV series (Both great). New title that series coming soon called MX Vs. ATV Alive, little bit of info here.
