Continuing their acquisition spending with the investment capital they were given, like so much pocket-money, ZeniMax has acquired Swedish development studio, Machinegames, which was founded by ex-Starbreez (Chronicles of Riddick) founder, Magnus Hogdahl, according to a report on Gamasutra.

The official Machinegames website states the newly founded studio's intention to "[create] AAA titles for next-gen platforms", and given the other recent acquisitions by ZeniMax, they'll likely get that opportunity with Bethesda's parent company. Machinegames joins the likes of id Software, Arkane Studios and Tango Gameworks under the ZeniMax Media brand.

Wow, another first person shooter developer. So that's id Software (Doom, Quake, RAGE, duh), Arkane Studios (Dark Messiah of Might and Magic), Bethesda Game Studios (Morrowind, Oblivion) and now Machinegames (Ridd***: Butcher Bay, The Darkness) as well as publishing for Splash Damage (Quake Wars, Brink)

Hope they don't end up stepping on their own toes with competing FPS titles and we see some solid staggered releases or some new genre variations.
