Among the sales currently going on Steam, DarkWater Studios' arcade air-combat title Dogfighter is still currently available for only USD$1.50. Originally launching in June, the game lacked Australian servers to play on. However DarkWater have recently improved their server software and Aussies should now be able to get some low-latency games happening as a result.
DogFighter is a fast paced, arcade aerial combat game with arena style gameplay values. Players can compete against up to 15 opponents in 4 multiplayer modes, or go solo in 7 single player game modes, using beefed up biplanes sporting over 20 different offensive and defensive weapons...
... and that’s just the start.

If you have a gamepad or joystick use them instead of the keyboard. All I did for the hour Ive played so far was smack into the ground and the various obstacles on each map, keyboard just doesn't cut it for this game.

It's pretty good fun. The server software is still pretty dodgy and crashy but you can generally manage to get a decent enough game in.

Well worth one fiddy imo.

This is true for pretty much any game that isn't an FPS or RTS.

Im a keyboard+mouse fanatic. Never owned a console and i suck with a gamepad. Found playing this game was no problem with keyboard+mouse once everything was setup right. Ive just bought it but only played the demo for a few hours a while back and had heaps of fun playing team deathmatch against the AI - variety of weapon pickups, perk pickups, mutators to change gameplay. If played for the arcade fun and not a flight sim, you cant go wrong for $1.50. Dunno how popular multiplayer is.

There was a server (and client I think) update this morning which should improve server stability a lot.

There's a bunch of servers up on GameArena so you can play MP with low latency too.

It's a bit rough with a mouse trying to pull off huge turns, haven't seen if there's a way to do it with keyboard yet as I used to kick so much ass in the good old battlefield 2 demo flying planes like that.
