N3V have reminded us that their free-to-play MMO Runes of Magic: The Elder Kingdoms has launched it's promised localised Australian servers today, making it one of the very few MMORPG titles to actually host locally in an Australian data-centre, as opposed to just changing the server's timezone.
Not only can Australians have extremely low pings while playing ROM due to locally hosted servers, they now can get in and experience ROM faster by downloading the new slim client which is only 3.5 GB - cutting the download size in half while retaining 100% of the content!
Runes of Magic is a free to play MMORPG. All you need to do is register an account and download the game to be ready for the Runes of Magic launch!

The Aussie servers are reportedly now open for business and you can nab the 3.5GB client using the official (torrent-based) downloader over at
runesofmagic.com.au. Or for those that prefer a local direct download,
right here in the AusGamers files library.

If anyone checks this one out, be sure to share your thoughts.

Because it is f2p you'll find micro transactions will abound. So play for free, don't buy anything and I can guarantee the server won't last long. If they have PvP micros will kill it because no one wants to be one shot by a player who purchased their gear.

Yea pretty much, I had little issue raiding in wow with Aussie latency, always wanted a lower ping but it didn't stop me playing, it did however stop me playing in the arena.
This is why I ignore any MMO that flashes 'No monthly fee!!' about the place.

But as stated above.. it's very cash shop orientated, which means a quick death to anything with a low population
