JoWood have released a playable PC demo for Arcania: Gothic 4 today, offering RPG fans the chance to check out the latest addition to the popular European developed fantasy RPG series.

Arcania is the first title in the long-running franchise not developed by Piranha Bytes, this time around fellow German studio Spellbound is doing the honours while the former crew focus on a sequel to 2009's Risen.
Ten years have passed since the end of Gothic 3 and the world has changed - the Southern Islands have become embroiled in conflict, and set the stage for the player to brave countless adventures in the guise of a nameless hero.

Decisions will have to be made which will change not only the future of the Southern Islands, but of the entire world. Old acquaintances and new faces will aid the hero or attempt to thwart his efforts throughout his journey.
You can download the Arcania: Gothic 4 PC Demo as well as check out the PC System Requirements, right here (1.7GB) in the AusGamers files library.

Demo won't even work for me, Game insta-crashes when hitting the .exe or shortcut, tried compatibility modes and running as admin, I installed all the extra s*** when the game installed as well so I'm not really sure what the issue is. Not a great first impression.

For anyone who has the same problem as me above, you can fix it by not using Asus Xonar audio output as the default output device. Hopefully this has already been addressed and will be fixed for the full game.

voice acting is rubbish and lip sync is bad.

Jump like your on the god damn moon, skill set seems very limited unless i'm missing something, voice acting and lip sync is horrible but it runs well enough and graphics are prettyish. Oh and the water physics where s*** runs downhill and forms pools is rather cool.

Gave this a bash today and it was pretty solid for a demo. The lip syncing is horrible and the voice acting could be better(compared to mass effect/DA) and there are a few other minor hiccups, but most of it's negligable compared to the actual gameplay

I'll be picking this one up for sure. $50 sounds about right for what was shown in the demo. Whether the story and voice acting picks up outside the demo or not, I don't know... But the immersiveness+RPG aspects+combat make for a decent dungeon romp

Hmmm I couldn't even bring myself to finish the demo, the voice acting/lip synch and graphics are just terrible, and the first few quests had me utterly bored. Why does the main character have to look like an emo fairy? A little character customisation would help. No immersion for me, will be giving this one a miss.
