The demo version of the recently released horror title Amnesia: The Dark Descent has landed, awesomely available for PC/Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. For those unfamiliar with the game:
Amnesia: The Dark Descent puts you in the shoes of Daniel as he wakes up in a desolate castle, barely remembering anything about his past. Exploring the eerie pathways, you must also take part of Daniel's troubled memories. The horror does not only come from the outside, but from the inside as well. A disturbing odyssey into the dark corners of the human mind awaits.
More information, including screenshots and a stack of videos, available on our Amnesia game page.

You can download it now locally from AusGamers in all three flavours: Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux.

I love these kind of games. Reminds me of Goosebumps: Escape from Horrorland.

Yeah, saw this on Steam and it sounded interested so I read a few reviews of it. It sounds pretty cool, and incredibly atmospheric, and genuinely scary. I was thinking of grabbing it, but since I'm a giant girly man I'm now wondering whether its TOO scary :(

I played a bit this morning and it feels a bit like "Call of Cthulu - Dark Corners of the Earth" sans combat. Looks good, I'm ready to play some more.

Bugga. I thought this might have been a new take on the old game by Parallax software:

Left disappointed that its not.

That game scared the ever lasting f*** out of me. I still can't play it. I dare anyone to go through the hotel escape part and not feel genuinely worried if you'll make it or not.

There's a door I can't get past, I'm not cut out for this.

(otherwise seems good)

Yeah, and I had just finished reading The Shadow Over Innsmouth when I played it, so that whole thing seemed extra awesome. So far this game is managing to be much creepier, but not much has happened so far beyond the distant howls of some unseen eldritch abominations. Whoever made this game has been reading plenty of Lovecraft...

I've been meaning to find and read that book. I'm still on Mountains of Madness and it's a tad hard to read because of the older style of wording.

Apparently the company who made this game is using it as a last ditch effort, otherwise they sink?

All the Lovecraft you can poke a stick at. Read a couple and you get used to the style pretty quickly.

I came in here to laugh at such a generic name for a game but I heard lovecraft so I'm downloading

OK finished the demo, seems quite rough around the edges, visually it feels about 8 years behind the times, like thief 3 only worse.

The game design left a lot to be desired, there was some interested mechanics, however I loathe the fact that it isn't until you fail or die that it actually tells you what to do, with text :/

Just a heads up.. when you get to the bit with water, you may want to turn the sound off, all the lights on and put on a blanket.

like thief 3

Was thinking exactly that. Might check it out again next time I have time, or if compiling drives me to post on ausgamers forums and I get distracted and start it up like right now.

You're not playing it right if you can see dated graphics in this game, you need to have it really dark.
If you need more info on what it's like there's a few LPs on youtube but only one that's any good.
