Mozilla have rolled out the beta version of Firefox 4 for people to try out. Head over the Firefox 4 Beta download page for a link to grab it.

There's a few changes so far:

-Tabs have been moved to above the address bar Chrome-style.
-There's a Firefox button (read: MS Office ribbon) to access all menu functions from.
-An apps tab (keep web apps you use frequently open permanently).
-Improved add-on management, upgraded privacy controls and more...

There's also promises that upcoming releases of the beta will add in more features including the ability to sync your bookmarks, saved passwords, settings & more to the clouds (like Opera) and retrieve on any PC you use.

The obvious downside is that a lot of extensions currently don't support it, however Adblock Plus does! promoted forum item

Would be nice if it had a Chrome style way of synchronizing bookmarks. Using Dropbox at the moment to sync Firefox between multiple machines.

wait, so the beta I've been using for a while now wasn't meant to be public? I did nothing sneaky to get it.

also noscript supports it and so do a bunch of other addons if you're willing to open up their installer & edit the max version parameter and endure some funky side effects on occasion.

Xmarks changed my life. You can even sync between chrome and firefox if you have the extension installed on both.

Sure it wasn't minefield Whoop? Last time I used it they had been keeping the new UI under wraps.

edit: I'm really going to miss those rss dropdowns. hrm.

Whoop - my bad if they've had it available for a while.. I'd only seen this today and it was suggested that they'd only just made it available.

It seems it has been out for a bit, but I hadn't seen it and I'm the most important person on this board, so you did good. :)

Why is it still so slow to load compared to IE & Chrome?

Because it's not IE or Chrome? If Chrome had noscript and adblock plus (ie they have to be as good as or better) then I'd use Chrome in a heartbeat.

I saw Fizzer's recommendation of Xmarks, I just want to throw in that I use Gmarks addon. Very good.

Wish firebug worked with it, would love to measure the difference in javascript speed.

+1 to Xmarks. I use it to sync multiple browsers over multiple machines.

This latest version of Firefox crashes all the f*****g time and is a memory hog. I don't know why they broke it and hope FF 4 fixes these issues.

For all those wanting Sync capabilites, what about Firefox Sync (formerly Weave)?

Strange, I have zero problems with Firefox 3.6.8 on PC and Mac regards to crashing. It does chew the memory after a while though.

It kind of does but from what I can remember chrome's version of adblock is lame compared to firefox's
