I want to be able to be able to drive around the city at a reasonable speed without losing it after going around a single corner. Got onto the highway after being chased by the cops (smashed into the first 50 parked cars I saw) and the slightest direction change sent me into a series of fishes that sent me headfirst into another car. Dead. Exit game.

The game itself seems really good, detailed and plenty of cool features, load time was very short... like 1 second short, but of course it's just a demo. Really like the speed limiter to match speed with the traffic easily. I think I might get this over SCII.
I had no issues with car handling at all, got around corners fine didn't hit parked cars, your not trying to take every corner flat out are you?
Oh and no dimming of the desktop on exit for me.

I couldn't find any details on multiplayer for this, has it been confirmed somewhere which isn't in my realm of google searching?

Edit* Supposedly if you collect the 5 centerfold magazines it adds and extra minute onto the time

Which is crazy when you think of what BC2 is doing with really no problem at all on a modern PC. I think their game engine needs a LOT of work.

I think the demo plays really well, and I really really doubt BC2 could reach the level of detail mafia can in terms of PhysX. Sure you can bring buildings down, but the come down in large pieces, shoot the concrete pillars in the factory in the demo and the debris that comes down and stays in the game world reacting to the surrounds far surpasses what you see when someone puts a mortar strike on a building in BC2. The devils in the details.
Lol ATI fails again.

I didn't like the driving much either, but I'm just putting that down to the fact I was doing it with a keyboard, hopefully its better with an analogue controller of some kind.
In game cutscenes seemed a little bit amateurish at times too, like the guy drinking from the bottle of booze that is clearly still sealed with a top on it, and I think graphically, it falls a little bit short of hitting the mark.
I didn't go round and try out all the shops, but the clothes shop was a bit annoying, cos you can't see what anything looks like on your character until you buy it, and in the gun shop you don't get any stats or real info on a gun until you buy it. Nice touch though being able to kill the shopkeeper and just steal everything.
I dunno, it was a fun game, but I think it falls short of where the bar has been set for these sorts of games. I also think it was un-necessary to go and try and make it like GTA with the full open world thing, I quite liked the way the first Mafia did it, with a more directed experience that still made you feel like you had a bit of freedom. That set it apart and made it its own game, now it just feels like a bit of a cheap ripoff that doesn't quite hit its mark.
The pillars still get destroyed the same way whether you have physics switched on or switched off, the only difference is the debris that spawns. All that happens when you turn physics on is it adds some kind of emitter that spawns a bunch of little "chunk of concrete" physics objects that fly out from where you shot the pillar. Its a neat effect, but its hardly dynamic destruction on the scale of BC2 or Red Faction.

looking forward to the full version!

Posted 06:23pm 11/8/10
I was merely saying there is more to be processed not that its better destruction.

Edit: Taking offerers on ATI 5870, lol. PM me :)

Gun combat is fun but felt things were at a bit... I dunno easy maybe? Pistols getting headshots the first shot, while the crosshairs are at full spread mode? Makes it way more deadly than a shot gun. Tommy gun is awesome as to be expected. Voice acting seems rather decent enough with exception of the guy who speaks perfect american despite him saying he comes from italy. Much better time playing it than my first attempt.
Still though, i'm not sure it's as good as what GTA4 is since you can spend 100s of hours in that and not get anything done. I apparantly have 98 hours on that game and I havn't even finished the Packie missions yet.

Anyway, tried the XBL demo for about 5 minutes... pretty good stuff. Never got very far in the first Mafia, but I'll admit the problem I had with the first one was fairly silly.

F*** dude, I'm running a gtx280 with a 2.6 cpu and with physx turned off I'm getting an average of 39fps. There can't be that much of a drop ?

Sorry that was poorly worded, with the update I get 21 FPS avg. with everything including physX maxed, previously it was almost a slide show. Max settings with PhysX off is about 50-55 FPS, at 1080p.

Do they send it to you so it gets to you on the release date (18th Aug) or will they dispatch it on the release date?
I'm thinking the latter. If you want it day one you'll have to pay more from gay bees (eb's) or steam (price hike due to gay bees)

Ok, maybe someone at my place fired up steam earlier today before I got home. I'll check it out tomorrow.
Posted 11:39pm 12/8/10
They will dispatch it 1-2 days early but the weekend always gets in the way so expect it to take a week or so.

And a video showing the 2 side by side. Now while I can't see any major differences between them, apparantly there is a huge amount of "tearing" on the PS3 version. Upwards of around 45%, while the 360 version keeps it at around 0.5 - 1.5%. Yet again another reason I love having a PC.
