The
Child's Play Charity is getting some serious love around the globe at the moment, and most recently, it has become the focus of a team of Team Fortress 2 players, all wielding Golden Wrenches, in a bid to raise some serious cash for kids in need.
So what are these brave virtual soldiers offering to do with their uber-melee weapons? Toss them, that's what. 10 Golden Wrench-swinging cats have pledged to destroy their golden tools in exchange for donations to the charity, and have so far managed to raise more than US$10,000. That's pretty good given the turmoil around this weapon when it was first dropped in-game, and the fact there were only 100 ever made available.
If you want to know more about this good deed, look no further than the
official page set up by the idea man himself, WingspanTT.

On August 31st WiNGSPANTT and 7 other Golden Wrench owners will commit a nigh unutterable act of brazen item-aggression so egregious that we shudder to think of the implications should the Administrator herself catch wind of it.
On that day 8 Golden Wrenches will be destroyed.

It's not like the wrench has any practical use or busted their balls to vanquish the dragon of Quendor to get one, the thing just dropped out of the sky. If they're willing to give up something cool and unique in exchange for making sick kids lives a little less miserable then the good on 'em & well done!

jesus what the f*** is wrong with you.
The fact that money can be raised in this way for a charity is awesome. end of story.

When you toss it, it's gone.
Posted 01:01pm 08/8/10
But then, it IS raising funds for a charity regardless.

This guy is so tough, he eats orphans for breakfast.

I agree, the wrench means nothing. You should be focusing on the charity, not the wrench

makes me wonder how many people have donated because theyre hoping to get something from valve in return.

Same with colouring your hair or shaving your head, it's pointless because the colour fades or your hair grows back but who gives a flying rats ass how people raise money for charity as long as they do it. I suppose you're one of those kids who dress in uniform on dress casual day at school just so you don't have to pay the $2 for charity because you say to yourself why the f*** should I pay $2 when I can wear whatever I want for free on the weekend.
