Steam is launching a new campaign to try to avoid people risking death by going outside in the US summer:
Each year millions of people are lured outdoors by the long, sun-drenched days of summer. With so many people spending the bulk of their time outside, it dramatically raises their risk of getting hurt. We urge you to play it safe, stay inside and save big with the "Perils of Summer" sale beginning today on Steam. Through July 4, gamers will find massive savings on today's top releases, classic titles, and publisher catalogs. In addition, special 1-day sales will offer discounts up to 90% off regular prices. Don't get caught without your sunscreen, the savings are hot.
You've only got about 13 hours (from the time of this post) to save, so if you're interested in bargains make sure you head over to the Steam site to check out the list of what is on offer. promoted/edited forum item

some different sales each day but i think the ones up the top like the packs are for the whole thing. Gonna just get the day sales then if i didnt spend much maybe get a pack like with the christmas sale.

It's probably more like the christmas sale..

the packs will be cheap for the week, however items will go on sale each day of the week, an item in a pack may reduce further later in the week, so if you are after a specific title hold out till last minute.

Yeah it's ok if you like RPGs. The action/combat is so so, but there is heaps of content. Some of the game systems are really clunky, like alchemy. Worth a shot if you are into more RPG-ish style RPGs. I never finished it myself, got about 1/2 way though. I think zero punctuation did a review somewhere.

Lots of nice specials there. Just got Trine for $4. Been wanting to play that game for ages after seeing the trailer for it. Visuals looked lush as hell and the music was damn cool.

^^ seconding those choices.

I preferred company of heroes over the dawn of war series. Great game.

Hmm, I'm having massive issues with Trine. The game is so GPU intensive my case goes from quiet to like there's a million fans going. Went to the forums and one of the devs suggested editing one of the game files and changing the default of 66 FPS (WTF F***!) down to 30 FPS. What type of clown makes a game they know that will potentially f*** a card with a locked 66 FPS???

Gave that a go and my GTX 295 is still spinning like a son of a b****. I'm guessing the next thing is to take my res down but I don't want the game looking like ass. Twas only $4 but it sucks that I can't play this the way it should be played.

Anyone else having issues with this game and know of any tricks to get it to play like normal games?

I have an E7300 + 512mb 4850 Rev and Trine ran like butter and looked pretty.

That doesn't sound right...
Reverend Evil
Posted 10:44am 26/6/10
Yeah, at least I know I'm not the only one having issues with it. Seems other people over at the official forums are having the same problem.

So far I've changed the frames to 30, changed detail to high and moved the res down to 1600x900. It seems to have made a difference although I can still hear the fan going faster than normal, it's just not going crazy like it first was.

Good thing is I can now play it without fear of my video card exploding.

Picked up the first Kane and Lynch today for $5. I never played it, and the second one is coming out soon and looks pretty good, so I figured, may as well fill in the backstory for myself. For $5, can't go too far wrong, from what I remember it got reasonable reviews, it wasn't stellar, but it wasn't terrible, worth $5 imo.

Even 6.0 isn't too bad for a $5 game, its above average, and that jeff gerstman dude has reviewed other games I really liked and given them low scores since hes been at Giant Bomb, so I don't often pay a lot of attention to him (not cos his reviews are crap or anything, just that he obviously doesn't like the same sorts of things in games that I do).

Besides, even if its s***, its only $5 wasted. Costs me more than that to catch a tram into the city for a day.
