We're having issues with our files servers on the AusGamers network this morning. As a result downloads from the AusGamers files library and streaming clips from our videos section will result in a 404s from our Sydney servers.

We're working hard to repair this issue and will be sure to let everyone know when the matter is resolved.

In the meantime, head over to our AusGamers Features page to catch up on all the E3 activity we've been producing the last two weeks.

Update: Bits and pieces are slowly coming back online now - we've switched our streaming videos and newly added files over to another server. We hope to have everything else back up within the next few days as we await repair of this hardware fault. Thanks to all visitors for your patience.

Update 7th July: The vast majority of popular files are now back online, along with almost all the videos (in fact, even more videos than we had originally, by the looks!). We're hoping the rest of the library will be back online mid-to-late next week once we've resolved our hardware issue.

false! the website is fine, the disk with all the files has a error on it so we have to run a system check on it which takes forever :)

Should have used VMware.

ho ho ho @ the idea of virtualising file servers doing the sort of volume we're doing

Everything can be virtualsied, you just need to set it up right, you loose f*** all performance and gain so much with DR.

If you server is running 100% all the time, then you obviously need more servers and proper load balancing.

Also, if you are virtualising, most likely they are already a couple of years old server, so the performance gain you get from new hardware will more than wipe out the TINY performance decrease you would get from virtualising.

Unless you have brand new servers, and they are already in a huge load balanced farm.

unless they're talking about a file server and its a storage issue not load balancing....

Well, I will confess I've never tried virtualising anything that is going to be primarily IO bound. I just assume it will suck compared to running native OS.

dont get me wrong, YOU WILL lose performance, and in the past I'd probably agree with you, but with decent hypervisors eg Citrix and VMware (Im excluding hyperv cause everyone knows that its s***), you loose very little performance.

Also with the ever increasing speed of CPU's and Disks, you negate the performance lost with new hardware.

Get one of the broncos to "reboot" the server.

Updated the OP with some new info. Nasty hardware issues though, so it looks like it's going to take a few more days yet :(

Did Trent type Recreate instead of Rebuild on the raid set again?

you crazy guy, I told you that's exactly what we're going to be doing! before this issue even

and in this case we gain performance cos the resources available to our vps service pwn all over the servers that are currently used for files

I was sooo right.

Just curious, how many TB of data do you host for the ausgamers files, and what sort of bandwidth does it use?

this is a guess, but I am going for 2TB in filez and 30-35TB bandwidth
