EA have announced some details about the next Need for Speed title at E3 - Need for Speed Hot Pursuit. One of the big new features is the new Career mode:
For the first time in Need for Speed history, players will experience the gripping and heart-racing action of both cops and racers. Hot Pursuit seamlessly links a tremendously deep and fully-defined single player career with a groundbreaking multiplayer experience across all race modes. In the end, whether playing online with friends, taking on friends challenges or the single player career, players will earn bounty that levels them up and unlocks new cars, weapons and equipment.
More information is available on our Hot Pursuit game page.

The E3 trailer is also available for streaming or download!

Uh, that's what I thought. With all the name recycling and remakes and reboots and all that s*** that is going on lately I've almost given up trying to keep track of it.

yeah there has been 2 hot pursuit games, nfs3 and nfs6 were both hot pursuits AND in both of them you could play as both cops and racers :s so their comment on "for the first time in nfs history" is complete trash. :S

I think the first time part refers to the fact that now it is gripping and heart racing. I am not sure what it was before.

Weapons? like what? stuff cops would use like traps? i wanna see some shooting from inside the car.

I also wanna see players being able to use that chopper packing some serious heat.

The first Hot Pursuit was alot of fun on LAN, 7 cops chasing 1 was great, couldn't get it to work on XP, might have to try again on Windows 7 now I've been reminded of it :)

Bring on a new road rash game lol, these need for speed games keep being the same old boring s***.

Last "great" NFS game was Underground 2 imo ...although carbon was pretty nice too.

I've been thinking that for quite a while now.
Looks good though, i'd give it a go i quite like what Criterion do with their racers.

The line is correct about it being the first time ever, it's just a dodgy quote.

For the first time ever in a Need for Speed game, you'll be able to play a full career on either side of the law.

NFS shouldn't be trying to compete with Forza though, NFS games are at their best when they're just high-speed arcade racers and not trying to be sims.

I thought that trailer looked awesome...

Manson in the soundtrack isn't a bad thing either.

I'm pretty confident this will be a great ride. EA handing the licence to Criterion was a very smart move, they know how to make a fantastic arcade racing game.

I'm surprised there's no 3DS version. I'd also bet that the Wii version won't be trash either, as long as Criterion are making it - they knew how to get amazing efforts out of the PS2/Wii/xbox with the original burnout games.
