mmm I disagree. I think console gamers are fine to buy DLC. They don't know any better.

I like the BC2 model where console gamers have to pay for it and PC gamers get it for free. That sounds like an awesome system - they can ream their biggest customer base (console gamers) and use the exact same assets to give something to the PC community.

Until they release the next game and don't bother porting to PC because there's not enough money to be made :(

When you say 'they' for some reason i think of them as the the mutants from futurama.

On-Topic: biggest rip off ever but will sell heaps because of the hype

I don't think this pack is hyped, it's been picked apart since it was announced and rightfully so.

I'm not sure why console users should subsidise other platforms here - isn't it just stroking a sense of entitlement in PC gamers?

If the pack is worth money then it should be a comparable price on all platforms, though in this case the pack doesn't look worth what they're charging for it. I know there's some XBLM shenanigans that goes on with Microsoft Points behind the scenes too.

Gotta agree, I don't have an issue with paying for DLC as long as it's worth the money, the Stimulus Package is worth $3, $1 for each new map.

As for a sense of entitlement, PC is what made these games big, now they port them to console and ruin them or at the very least cut them short of their full potential, hard to not feel hard done by as a PC gamer.

PC is what made these games big?? Dude your living in the past, quit living in the past. Your hung up on PC gaming from the 90s man.

Seriously, when you have a console hooked up to 50inch TV in your living room with surround sound system where you just sit down and press play, well youll ditch that PC faster than you can say 'thats f*****g awesome'.

PC gaming is DEAD get over it. Dont be an old grandpa about it.

Cross platform FPS wouldn't be fair PC players have too much advantage with a mouse/kb.

I actually was speaking to a mate and he said he'd beat me at an FPS game him using his ps3 controller and me using a mouse/kb. I didn't think anybody actually thought that.

yeh that's what I mean. There's stacks of console gamers out there that reckon they would be just as good as PC gamers, using their own controller vs PC gamer on mouse and keyboard.

I personally feel that is crap and the depth of skill available to a PC gamer on mouse and keyboard is just so much greater than a console controller could ever offer.. but it needs to be tested! Maybe I should see if we can get Pyth and some pro Halo gamer in a room together and have them compete

I have used a console on such a set up, and really don't care, my PC out performs it in every way, I have a 22in monitor that I sit much closer too, picture quality is much better that the 1080p TV in the living room, my sound hardware far surpasses the living room surround also and I have a xbox 360 controller plugged into my PC also, so I get the best from my racing games and they look better.

The only advantage to being a console gamer is the big couch.

however i do prefer my racing/car games on console

PC is the next big step up from a console but the pc's power has to be used like in so many pc only games.
Some game developers want to dumb us down but i think theres a lot of people who will eventually want the scalability of the pc... A Game PC

PC Gamers should assemble thier own pc's ! I started with a 386 and mains power to the on/off front switch.

I bought one of these
They get fairly good reviews from people. I'd try it out but I finally went dust off my ps3 to find out it doesn't work so I am waiting for that and I'll report back to say if it is fail or not.

I am worried it will drag heaps because it is trying to emulate the analogue sticks. Hopefully my ps3 arrives back tomorrow I'll test it out on badcompany2.

All the good games are designed for consoles, your PC is an after thought, you are the scraps fed to the dog so stop getting all high and mighty.

I swear all this PC reteric could actually be alienating a majority of readers who are console gamers and turning them away from this site, thats a shame.

One last thing, you refer to console gamers as 'not knowing any better' when its comes to pricing of DLC. Now that quite presumptuous assuming that all console gamers are idiots. I think an idiot would be someone who pays $2000 for a gaming PC to play a game that can run on a $300 console.

Calsy, did you type that post with your XBOX360 controller? Because you misspelt 'rhetoric'. Perhaps your XBOX doesn't have a spell checker.

No, PC games are not an after-thought in the majority of cases. Many games are specifically designed for the mouse/kb interface that a PC provides.

A huge proportion of this site is conslol games. The only readers that are turned away are illiterate ones.

The PC has always been the underdog in sales and market share, at least as far as I know. First the nes and master system, then snes and mega drive, and so on and so forth. These systems were huge in their day, and that's before sony even entered the game. I'm not sure PC gaming has ever been the bigger, more profitable market? I'd be happy to be proven wrong though.

It's not like first person shooters or RTS games are even a recent thing on consoles. Hell, there was a doom port to the snes, and Dune II as well if I recall correctly?

For a while PC's had their own little niche going though - mainly in strategy and FPS games, because the only console versions were old (and usually crappy) ports if they had them at all, and all the people who had grown up with pc games found the controls easy to learn.

Anyways, i'm hoping the next wave of consoles comes soon - the 360 and ps3 can be kinda limiting in comparison to modern PC's, especially in the outright quantity of ram and CPU cycles available, and I'd like to see some games that gave me a good reason to upgrade again (I haven't upgraded my mobo in like 3 or 4 years now, haha). It's been a while since the minimum specs of a game have been higher than what I have.

My PC cost me $800 4 years ago. I've slowly upgraded it over the years. So now its maybe $1200 worth. And it can play anything at any level, even crysis. The console players who keep saying PC's cost a s***load just to play a game that a console can play cheaper, are liars and trolls. I can build a now decent and up to date PC for $800. It will play Just Cause 2 with full graphics. It can play crysis at full. You console gamers are obviously the people buying s***** pre-made computers and then crying that it doesn't play CSS properly.

ohhh pinky you misspelled console, might want to look into that if you're going to do the old spelling comeback.

So again us 'console' gamers are the only ones buying the way expensive computers and then whinging about it hahaha. PCs are more expensive, its fact. Just cause you can go down to your local umart doesnt make you some sort of genius.

I dont even have to argue these points, the FACTS speak for themselves. But hey theres always a dusty old place in the corner of every game store where PC gamers can hang out. May even be a rocking chair there.

You do know the PC gaming community is still large? Its not as big as the casual console gaming community, but its still there. Steam alone has a million people alone using their software. Clearly we are not a dead, dusty corner in the gaming market.

I'm not arguing with you that we are the rightful gamers. Its just that when console gamers come in saying they should be the only people allowed to play games. Stop being a righteous prick, get off your high horse and enjoy the GAME. Who gives a flying f*** who likes what, unless your some sadistic "look at me im doing stuff, how cool am i".

As a student at uni studying game development to become a game programmer, I'm going to be making games for the joy of having a product and getting people to play it and enjoy it. Not to make it so you console fanatics can simply say "we have more games, we have more players, aren't we friggin sweet"

I'm not disagreeing with most of your points; I'm not arguing that consoles or PCs are 'better' for gaming (though I certainly have my opinion). I think that argument is futile because both systems are great for gaming in their own respective way.

In fact I'd encourage you to ignore the PC trolls who just like exerting their superiority over console brethren when they start up on that s*** (me included).

But I really, sincerely believe that console gamers just don't know what it was like "in the old days" of the PC with games like Quake, CoD, MOH, etc. Those games were released in such a way that the community was encouraged to create free content. It spawned entirely new content that everyone could get for free, that increased the value of the game. In some cases the derivative products created were even more popular than the original game (Counter-Strike, Desert Combat, Team Fortress) and went on to spawn entirely new games and brands all of their own.

So yes, PC is what made these games big. And now instead of getting nice, open, moddable, scalable games, we get these limited games, with no development tools or open server models, and now they're trying to charge us $9.95 for a 2 map pack or something - when back in the day within weeks of release we would have had a hundred new free maps to choose from.

That is what I miss, and why I said 'console gamers don't know any better'. It wasn't an insult - just a statement of fact; most console gamers are simply ignorant of what it was like back in the day.

It's really sad to me, because it's clear that some of the best games ever made have come out of the hobbyist/modding community. To me it's crystal clear that this is the best option for game developers to pursue - if they're interested in making really great games that people will play for ever.

But that's not what they're interested in any more. They want to s*** out a game, throw it in a box, have you play it for 6 months to a year, all the while paying for more DLC the whole time, and then they want to release version two point oh a year later and make you upgrade.

Troggles for PM. Could not have put it better.

A really good example of a PC game still kicking and with a strong modding community and loads of free content is ARMA I/II. Take a look over at www.armaholic.com to see just how much content is available for free, this is how it should be (should add that the Project Reality mod team from BF2 have moved over to ARMA II for obvious reasons).

I don't think this system is dead though, there are still titles like ARMA doing it but there is also the likes of Battle.net that will have the modding tools and a way for modders to sell there content via Battlenet for a slice of the pie, once again Blizzard showing their PC roots, this is why they are my favorite developer (kickass games helps too).

Im a big console gamer, but my origins stem from pc gaming, i know exactly what it was like in the day... whilst i love my console gaming i do hate these new dlc trends... im not talking eposidic content or even dlc exspansions.. im talking about paying for dlc that is already on the disc....

When i decided to move to console gaming i gave up the online communitys, i gave up the user created content.. i expected easy gaming where i didnt have to worry about upgrading drivers and hardware to software compatability, now i have constant patches being thrown at me and dlc that gives me very little for a large price.

Id go back to pc gaming but its the same scenario..

At what point did things so drastically change, i don't know who to blame, publishers, developers or customers.
