Built on the open source Quake 3 engine, Nexuiz, was a free arena-style first-person shooter for PC, garnering a lot of players from its inception in 2005. Now, some five years later, developer/publisher IllFonic have announced they'll be bringing the game to consoles (Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network).
Originally developed by Alientrap Software as a free open source shooter in 2005 for the PC, /Nexuiz/ has been downloaded by over 4 million unique users. IllFonic’s remake of Nexuiz for console gamers features a new Victorian influenced art style that is simultaneously futuristic and sophisticated.
The game, which has been downloaded for PC by more than four million unique users, will have a full visual overhaul for consoles, introducing the game to an entirely new audience. We have some screens you can check out below.

I really don't see why. I have been until very recently primarily a console gamer (360). I have always defended the consoles (mainly Xbox) from all the PC gamers that say you can't play FPS on a console.

Call of Duty or Halo for example, is perfectly fine on an Xbox controller. Yes, you may be able to beat someone using a controller when you are using 1337 h4x0r keys and mouse, but meh. The game remains perfectly playable on (Xbox) consoles.

Perhaps some of the reasoning for this criticism is that they have tried using Sony's sore excuse for a joystick. I can't use them either - they feel funny and they are in the wrong spot.

Anyway, an example of a game that DOESN'T work on a console would be Quake/Unreal/Nexuiz. You only ever want to run. You need to be able to change direction instantly. You need to jump while turning your camera. etc... You need to be able to precisely aim at players doing the same ridiculous movements as you. It's why the game is fun. I don't see the point.

It's not that they're not playable, it's just that PC gamers feel that its an inferior experience when compared with the awesomeness of the PC controls.

But I think you are totally correct that Quake/Unreal/Nexuiz, as basically pure action games, are much less accessible on a console.

Insane, PC players feel dominate, because of what Trog said, the controls. I'm developing a simple game atm with a few colleagues and it's being developed for the PC. It could maybe work on consoles, with a few tweaks here and there, but i would rather it be more fluent on the PC, with the controls it enables.

You have the mouse and the keyboard, both excellent tools that just enable a gamer so so much more then what a console controller can do. A controller is limited to so few buttons/combos, were as a PC has far far greater amount. And it is fair to say, there are console games that are just meant to be played on console (read: Heavy Rain).

I do agree, this game is going to be quite odd for consoles, because it does need that reflex feeling that, yes consolers can have, but PC allows far better execution.

When you're completely fluid in your movement to the point where movement itself becomes a sport, then you really do feel like you're "missing out" when you move to a console.

The game is still a game and is fun. But there's another experience another level when you play a really well coded fps for the PC.

edit: Note that my last influential game on PC was quake 3. The last few games i've played were all on the xbox, from modern warfare and 2, to gears of war. I find them fun but i couldn't sink the thousands of hours into just strafejumping in circles around a map..
