During a full-year earnings call, Activision Blizzard let loose details surrounding their movements for 2010, with some stellar information landing for anyone on the edge of their seat for StarCraft II.

A closed beta for the space-faring RTS sequel will kick off this month and include thousands of participants to "generate new excitement" for the game, while it is reportedly still on track for release mid 2010. And that's not too far away.

Other bits of news that found their way out of the conference call were:
  • Battlenet 2.0 will launch when the SCII Beta launches, and SCII will be able to be downloaded directly from Battlenet 2.0 - the first of many games being offered through the service.
  • The long-awaited Blur from Bizarre Creations will ship Q2, but will also be initially playable in multiplayer beta form this march.
  • Raven Software's original IP, Singularity, will also finally see the light of day after being pushed back in 09 with news it will launch in Q2 as well.
Looks like we're in for a very Activision Blizzard Easter period folks.

You have to have at least one blizzard product on your battle net account.

So just get WoW.

I have Starcraft anthology, Warcraft 3, Frozen Throne, 6 WoW accounts, Diablo2 and Throne of Destruction linked to my battle.net
And submitted my computer profile and opted in for all 3 families of products.

It wouldn't let me add my Warcraft 2 Battlenet edition or Diablo 1 keys. :(

Not a fan boy, but Blizzard do make polished products.

I would amazed if anyone here actually gets it.

By closed blizzard actually means "Must be korean and one of the many pro ladder ranked people in Korea."
Creepy
Posted 01:22pm 11/2/10
Last I checked "global" (beta test, as quoted from the meeting's ppt) implied more than "Korea"
CSIRAC
Posted 01:23pm 11/2/10
Considering how noob friendly blizzard are these days, they probably want a broad range of people beta testing.

But yeah none of us will get it :P but not because we're not pro korean.

Not really that hyped about SC2 anymore, I'm sure I'll get it when it comes out but its not something I'm sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for. And I really only want to play it for the single player campaign anyway.

Was hoping some light might have been shed on this mysterious new original IP MMO that blizzard are working on.

I only got Starcraft anthology on it, I got war2 but f**** me if that even came with a cdkey.

Hopefully they need plenty of noobs on s*** computers to test if so I'm in.

Tetsuo

If you are waiting for SC:Ghost you will be sitting there waiting an awefully long time....

Somehow i get this funny feeling that poor random people with average computers that are noobs who get this will be hacked and tracked down, shot by rabid fans and have there key stolen.

You heard it here FIRST!

The Starcraft Ghost project got put in the deep freeze years ago.
Blizzard made an announcement, it's not like they've been saying 'coming soon' for a decade.

People that will defend the indefensible or excuse crapness by referencing previous products.

Starcraft + Brood War single player campaign was pretty good, but I'm guessing the multiplayer has been what's kept the battle chest at $50 on EB shelves for a decade.
Khel
Posted 06:09pm 11/2/10
I'm not a huge RTS fan, so I never really get into the multiplayer side of them much, aside from a few muck around games on LAN with mates here and there. But the single player campaigns in Starcraft and Warcraft 3 were both pretty top notch, so I'm looking forward to seeing what they pull out for Starcraft 2.

If I marry them ... there ain't gunna be a pre-nup so then I can divorce them and get HALF!
Dan
Posted 08:38pm 11/2/10
I'll support that as long as you use your half to make new Rock n' Roll Racing and Lost Vikings games.
Obes

Neither of them were technically Blizzard ... and wasn't rock n roll racing was only for gay guys that loved fat italian plumbers ? (not that there is anything wrong with that)

made a battle.net account and put in the wow cdkey but it said it was already claimed. i then figured out you can merge your wow account with the battle.net one. had to reset the password on wow account because i couldnt remember it, but now its merged with the battle.net account.

i then had to download some program to scan the computer and it uploaded my specs to the account. im now signed up for starcraft, wow and diablo beta tests.

how do you learn the game if you don't play single player?
Thundercracker
Posted 09:55am 12/2/10
I find single player doesn't really get you ready for multiplayer, apart from the very basics. The only way to get semi-decent at multi is to play a hell of a lot of it, which generally involves a lot of games where you get your arse handed to you.
Tetsuo
Posted 10:43am 12/2/10
Honestly, why is it taboo to say you play both?

How did this turn into "OMFG MULTI MEANS BETTERZ!"... I like both?
ctd

Single player is nothing like multiplayer and will probably get you into bad habits. Same with skirmish vs AI.

Like every other game out there. The SP is for the story line, and seeing as SC has a f*****g awesome story, I'm looking forward to see how it plays out. If you're arrogant enough to not play SP out of principle than you're missing out and I pity you, coz chances are i'll probably school you in MP as well.

Some details have crept out from a forum Q&A:

- Beta will be a global simultaneous release
- Invites will likely go out a few days before actual availability
- Download is aimed at under 3GB
- Multiplayer-only beta, with a minimal amount of B.Net 2.0 functionality (focused on in-game comms and matchups/ladders)

Apart from playing the shareware before i had the internet Ive never played the single player campaign. Id rather get smacked silly online by real ppl then play alone Vs a comp.

Real ppl do the strangest tactics, they backstab, make mistakes, mass units, playing in say 3v3 games you sometimes get 2 very good players and one weak player.

Ive dropped in and out of Starcraft lots of times but i still find its the best online game. Theres a bit of buzz when your game contains players from korea germany australia america all in the same little square battling away.

Cant wait for SC2 !
