EB Games are throwing their weight behind the R18+ debate, setting up petitions across the country in every one of their 350 stores because "our customers asked us to", said Managing Director, Steve Wilson.

"With the release of the Government’s discussion paper, we knew as a company that we needed to act on this issue as it continues to cripple our industry and cost local jobs," Wilson continued. "We did however want to be sure that our customers were as passionate about the matter as we are."

Hopefully this gets the attention of parents or others who may not be aware of the issue. Good to see this kind of support though.

Steve, you should be really using PM for this sort of stuff.

No but seriously whether we have an 18+ classification or not my money is still going to be going overseas, simply because i don't fancy paying twice as much for the same product just to keep local jobs.

Give me 18+ PLUS prices inline with the rest of the world and then i'll think about it.

nah, paying $50 extra for the same game as the rest of the world is getting is awesome

Gamers should be happy about this. This will give mass exposure to people who might not be aware of the issue. Hopefully they really put it in their faces.

I agree with Trog, anyone who shops at EB's probably doesn't even have access to the internet so it's a good way to make them aware of the issue.

Who cares about the price they are charging as a platform to rise more awareness of the issue its more than fine. Saves all 3 people turning up to a rally and gets the issue into the mind of joe blow, where they may of missed it otherwise

This is hilarious, hahaha.

Also, yeah this is top notch. A big company getting behind the debate AND also putting their own view out there is big news.

Still won't shop there, lol. But good one em.

EB may suck balls for prices but it's fantastic they are behind this now as it'll get a lot more exposure. Everytime I walk past an EB they are always full too. The EB closest to me usually has a ton of girls in it too oddly enough.

Is it just me or does it seem like a lot of chicks are playing TF2 lately? By a lot I mean nearly always one per team of 16, at least on the Payload servers I play on (game.on.net and 3fl).

Maybe it's always been that way with online games, you just haven't known because they don't speak. But now it's pretty much acceptable to speak to randoms and VOIP is popular.

Ohhhhhh, so this is the use for EB. I knew they were there for a reason when
I never buy anything from there, having to swim through crowds to look at shelves.

Course this will just mean more overpriced games on the shelves of theig overly cramped stores.

Ah f***it, I'm off to go play Strip Magic: The Gathering.

I'm in EB all the time, mostly getting the info on what's been recently released.
LOL @ buying anything from there though.

Kids dragging their parents into the store for an impulse buy seems pretty common.

This is just good business as far as EBgames is concerned, whilst yes alot of there customers are dumb parents paying too much for games, they still have a substantial customer base that are average gamers, and while the media is putting a spin on the 18+ thing its just smart business for them to say they support it... I bet some lame news website *cough*news.com.au*cough* picks up the story and runs with it thus giving them free marketing... Just like QGL/Ausgamers has... but i guess whilst the 18+ is a hot issue right now its best they cover it.

Don't get me wrong, i thinks its good thing that they have done.. i mean to say.. they didn't have to..

Anything that shines more light on the 18+ debate is good.. right?

Yeah I guess I could look on the internet but I usually just wander in when I'm out and about anyway. I don't go directly to EB and then head home again.

+1 signiture... I would sign that petition a million times if i could!

I think this could be the break that R18+ rating need in Aus. Who knows? We might have R18 games introduced this year even!

didn't think this deserved another thread, but on tonight's Good Game (first ep for new season) they had a piece on the R Rating, with good coverage of Atkinson, GamersForCroydon and other stuff. You can watch it on iview or [illegal thing deleted]

Atkinson sensationally says he is more scared of gamers than bikers, both of which are groups he's busy persecuting and demonizing.

Isn't that discrimination? Lumping all gamers into a pile and saying they're bad? On top of that, it's hypocrisy as he is not a gamer himself.

Just because I like to game including violent ones too, doesn't mean I'm into that stuff in real life. In fact I'm a pretty nice guy, as are my other gamer mates.

Look at electric retard.com though, and I hate that site - it's f***ed up. Just because gamers like R18+ material, doesn't mean they condone all the actions that are portrayed within.
