Funcom have announced a Christmas offer - anyone that downloads, registers and starts playing the trial before January 1, 2010, will get free, unlimited play for the first 20 levels of the game - for ever.
"Our original seven day trial has been very successful so far," says Morten Larssen, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Funcom. "But with the holiday season coming up this is the perfect time to shake up our trial offer a bit and try out something new. So everyone who downloads the trial before January 1st will be able to play the first part of the game for free, forever. We are confident that many of those taking advantage of this offer will choose to become permanent players, allowing them to experience all of what the game has to offer including all the additions and improvements introduced since launch."
Head over to the official site to register if you want to give it a crack.

Play up to level 20 in a game that isn't fun..... yay! Boring grind-house nonsense.

it wasn't too bad of a grind, the s***** bugs were the biggest issue back when this was released

If people are going to get sucked into an MMO, it's going to be WoW.

They should give up now.

Even if they gave the game away for free it wouldn't be enough to detract from it's high level of s***ness.

Back when I played it, the first 20 levels were about the only content that seemed somewhat polished/done. No big surprise they're limiting it to those first 20.

that was a billion years ago though; my understanding now is that they've really upgraded the latter levels to make them as polished as the first 20 (...based on what I've heard from a few people that went back to it after the various recent upgrades to give it a go again)

I am definitely an MMO noob so take this with a large grain of salt:

I gave this a go a few months back, I found the high amount of instancing on just the standard quests pretty lame. I didnt really understand what the point of playing it was; it certainly was not a "massive multiplayer" experience.

Nathan it is how they are going now. Everything is being instanced to improve performance. WoW, the biggest mmo in the world still restricts you to a handful of people to get s*** done, and throw you into an instance.

Yes you can solo all the way to level 80 just doing the quests without grinding and the storyline is quite good. It still doesn't change the fact that the first 20 levels haven't really changed since release. DX10 version is stable and brilliant but the classes are still unbalanced for PvP.

conan was definitely massively multiplayer when I played it, wasn't much instancing other than the day/night bit from 1-10 or 10-20 or whatever it was. 20-80 was shared zones with pvp going on all over the place, was great

good imo
there's no reason to expect that every class should have an equal chance at beating any other given class 1 on 1, in fact it'd be silly to I reckon
