Well this week (and more specifically, midnight tonight being Monday, November 9), 2009's most anticipated game is launching across the country with EB stores everywhere opening their doors at midnight for hungry gamers keen to get their mitts on Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare 2 which is available in three editions: Prestige (which I'm told are sold out across the country), Hardened (still available) and Normal.
Of course, Modern Warfare 2 isn't the only game launching this week, but you do have to feel a bit sorry for anyone stacking up against Activision's gaming Goliath, a game that is very likely to become 2009's biggest seller, regardless. Anyway, without further adieu, here are this week's game releases:
- Modern Warfare 2 PC, PS3, Xbox 360 - The most anticipated game of the year is here. Like sex with models, except you won't be shooting blanks. You'll be taking out terrorists with guns that work. I mean, my gun also works. I've said too much (November 10)
- New Super Mario Bros. Wii Wii - Not to be confused with Super Mario Bros. The Movie starring Bob Hoskins and Dennis Hopper. With a tagline like "This Ain't No Game" it can get confusing, because that implies that the movie is actually a game. Just not this one (November 12)
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare - Mobilized DS - Because making money off the normal release just isn't enough (November 10)
- Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of the Sky DS - The lure of mysteries and dungeons and sky explorers is certainly enticing, but monsters that "pop" out of balls is just enough to warrant a pass (November 10)
- CSI: Deadly Intent Wii - Hmm, let me inspect this crime scene. Looks like I found traces of both semen and blood! Jackpot! 10,000 points to me (November 12)
- NBA 2K10 Wii - Just like the movie White Men Can't Jump, except it doesn't feature Woody Harreslon as the white guy who owes money to the Stucci brothers, or Wesley Snipes comparing the relative simplicity of a free throw to a chicken wing on a string (November 13)
- Shaun White Snowboarding: World Stage Wii - The Wii Balance Board replaces mirrors as the premier white powder carving platform (November 12)
- SpongeBob's Truth or Dare DS - Mr. Square Pants, truth or dare? Truth? Ok then, when's the last time you scored with a lady? Change to dare? Ok then, I dare you to have sex right now (November 13)
Heh, it looks like someone forgot to tell Nintendo Modern Warfare 2 was launching this week, though in their defence, most of these games are for the young 'uns who're technically not allowed to play MW2 anyway (though shrill high-pitch voices over microphones during MW multiplayer suggest otherwise).
Next week is another massive one though, with the likes of Assassin's Creed II (which we're playing through for review right now) and Left 4 Dead 2 launching alongside a host of other games. If you don't see us on the MW2 multiplayer trip, chances are we're boycotting for no dedicated servers and playing New Super Mario Bros. Wii.
Check back next Monday for your weekly dose of game releases, and stay tuned later today for the AusGamers Weekly Wrap. (A big shout out to Kosta for the hilarity once more).
