The debut trailer for Dust 514, a console sci-fi shooter (that may still arrive on PC also) has arrived, and the game is looking bloody fantastic. Stunning visuals, an emphasis on explosive sound and solid art-direction nestle alongside intense action and combat, suggesting this game may revive the stale sci-fi shooter genre.
Dust 514 is a FPS/MMO hybrid set within the EVE Online universe, and will allow players to interact directly with EVE Online (just how hasn't really been fully revealed just yet) and feature RTS-style gameplay along with traditional FPS mechanics. It's a bold and interesting game, so stay tuned for more details as they arise.

PC gamers do not make friends with console users.

Spot on, FPS = PC only, doubt Aus will get local servers.

Have to disagree with the FPS for PC part. FPS are awesome on consoles.

Skill wise of a console player playing against a PC player would be a joke, you're so limited.
But then again a mouse and keyboard controlled robot would be slaughtered by someone physical perhaps.
Take the limitations and play with people on the same playing level. At least in terms of consoles, every player has the exact same restriction without ease of modding/cheating/spending thousands for a better reaction time keyboard mouse monitor.
Not to say i enjoy competitive console FPS, I don't. It feels like halflife 1. Awkward.
Posted 04:40pm 14/10/09
The fact is that consoles primary purpose is gaming and they do a damn good job of it.
Posted 04:45pm 14/10/09
most other things they're ok at.
Posted 04:53pm 14/10/09
Silly PC Gamers (the word 'gamers' obviously used lightly) thinking they can out do console gamers is a joke.
Nothing like having to try and maneuver around when you have to use 2 different devices and about 10+ keys apposed to an ergonomically designed control with everything conveniently at your fingertips.
You obviously haven't seen a real console gamer and I would be happy to demonstrate some COD4 to anyone ;)
Again it arises that until multi-platform gaming is around it cannot be proven but it will be a good day if it ever comes around because i believe PC users would be sadly mistaken.
Posted 04:54pm 14/10/09
They don't exist, all console 'gamers' are too busy knobbing each other under the table.

Cause if it was older than the Xbox 360 age I'd be suprised there would be such a gap between the pc and console gamers.
The 360 controllers in particular are the best controllers ergonomically that I've used.

* As part of the next update (called Dominion), we're getting prettier planets that have modelled land masses, clouds, water etc etc. So far, it's just pretty, but with the next step in mind...
* When Dust comes out, around the same time as the update following dominion, eve-online corporations and alliances will be able to interact with planets in null sec systems (need a particular type of resource? You need a particular type of planet to supply it for example). This means they'll dictate to a certain extent where players of dust play.
* Future updates / expansions have the devs speculating about things like "hiring", so people who are good at dust can be hired by the highest bidder. Also, eve players and corps will be able to set up supply lines to dust players to give them an advantage and allow them to have greater control over their sovereign planets etc etc
* Once ambulation comes in, players in eve may be able to interact with players of dust, such as meeting up in space stations to discuss tactics etc etc. There's been a different take on the whole "walking in stations" thing, so this is probably going to change in some way.
So there ya go... interesting. I'm not sure that it's actually going to work very well, because eve players are going to have to depend on console gamers with the attention spans of retarded snails to ensure their sovereignty on planets, and that's going to suck :) Of course, they might have some clever way of getting around that...

regank: there's no question that a mouse offers more accuracy than a gamepad/stick, and that a kb offers more inputs and mapping options than a controller. i know it must be very tough for you, but don't take it personally :)

lol, well I think that's settled the multi platform argument and shot me down :-)
I still enjoy my FPS games on console though and don't think they are a fail.

regank: as long as you're having fun i wouldn't give two s**** about what some people on a gaming forum say ;)

I'm more concerned that there'd be no uptake on dust, and eve players will need to use some sort of scissors / paper/ rock algorithm to find outcomes from battles.

Does EVE have servers all around the world? or just the US/EU?
Posted 06:39pm 14/10/09
Dunno how they're going to do dust on the same servers though.

Yeah I do... can you tell? :P
I've been playing it on and off for about 3 years now, although only really started getting into it since the Trinity expansion (about 2 years ago?).
I'm a hi-sec carebear mostly, although I like to think of myself as a wealthy industrialist ;) I have 3 accounts, so I've got some PVP characters, mission runners, miners and a trader type who just got herself a freighter!
PM me some stats?
