Shacknews have posted an interesting article relating to a comment LucasArts CEO, Darrel Rodriguez, recently made when asked if it was likely, in similar fashion to the recent revival of Monkey Island, we'd be seeing the classic Star Wars flight sim titles, X-Wing and/or TIE Fighter, to which he responded "We don't have any announcements now, but stay tuned, we will soon...".

Obviously this would be a no-brainer, and you'd likely see the games arriving on Steam and Xbox Live Arcade, either visually updated, or (hopefully) intact in their original presentation. At any rate, take all of this with a grain of salt.

As much I'd dearly love to hear that a secret project to create a brand new x-wing / tie fighter game is nearly completion, I highly doubt this is the case. But even if they're just going to revive the original games and re-release them over steam I'd be happy...... Just so long as they've updated the graphics engine to allow for modern resolutions.

If its x-wing vs tie fighter, that's even better since it was this title's multiplayer experience which really holds the best memories for me personally.

Hopefully if it is just "revamps" they sell well enough to open the door on a new title in the series getting funding.

I just hope it they don't limit it to joysticks. Wasn't X-W vs T-F only joystick compatible?

I recall Xwing Alliance had mouse support. Hopefully They're revamping that game than the older Xwing Vs Tie Fighter, the TIE Advanced fighter kicked so much arse :D

Hopefully they are putting a fully functional X-Wing Vs Tie-Fighter game into the MMO that is being made. The giant space battles resulting in faction changes for an entire planet. That would be cool.

I'd rather not having them put space combat in to The Old Republic. It really didn't feel 'right' in SW: Galaxies & judging by what Bioware seem to be aiming for, it wouldn't really fit in..

Someone needs to get around to making another descent freespace. Number 2 took a massive dump on any space fighting game that I have ever played.

Aren't there several 'resurrection' type projects aimed at keeping Freespace 2 alive and updated? Could've sworn I saw a story on Kotaku the other day talking about a group using FS2 to make an unofficial Starfox sequel?
