The F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin singleplayer demo has landed a bit earlier than expected - you can download it
locally from AusGamers right now. The blurb:
F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2005 smash hit game, F.E.A.R., is a blend of advanced visceral combat mixed with seamless game pacing set inside a sinister and paranormal universe that begins shortly before the ending of F.E.A.R. A Special Forces squad is on a routine mission when the city of Auburn is rocked by a supernatural explosion. Alma, a girl with immense power and a thirst for revenge, has unleashed her wrath upon the city and thrown it into chaos. The squad must combat enemy forces and the supernatural as they struggle to find a way to stop Alma and uncover the mysterious forces arrayed against them before it’s too late.
The same demo is also now available for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 owners, however PS3 users can only currently gain access this via the Qore paid subscription service.
F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin is due to hit PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in Australia on February 11 2009. For more media and details stop by our detailed
game page or check out our recent exclusive interview with Project Art Lead Dave Matthews

"oh thats pretty... huh, that was cool... ok don't like this but this could turn out to be a pretty good game"
All I can say for this game is f*****g incredible. Looks like they've taken the spooky, s***-your-pants moments from #1 and injected them with some halucinagentic drugs. The part in the school where its nearly pitch black and there is all that noise of things getting thrown around the hall, with all the lockers banging shut... holy s***. Playing it with headphones on is the way to go. No second thoughts about it, this game deserves my money. Well done Monolith.
Parts I liked
- School. That whole area was so god damn creepy
- Weapons look pretty awesome and seem to be rather funky. Like the new combat shotgun
- not sure if its possible everywhere but partialy destroyable terrain? In my FPS? F*** yeah. Noticed that part of a pillar was blown off when I threw a grenade near it.
- General atmosphere is incredibly creepy and works so well
Things i'm not too hot on though
- flash light is nearly useless. A zippo lighter would produce more light
- not a HUGE fan of the reworked clone soldiers but i'll deal with that
- long ass load times when you load last saved point. Oh boy will you die in this game, and I don't want to have to wait 3 min each time between attempts. #1's was only a few seconds.
EDIT - On a 2nd play through I actualy don't mind the new look of the clone soldiers. I rather like them actually but I don't like their voice. #1 was great because clone voices had a slight static filter over them of something that made it sound like it was coming through a headset or something. Oh well.
Also despite how critical I was about the power armor thing at first, I rather enjoy it. While it does kill the horror mood a little it comes down to "is it fun?" and yes... yes it is indeed. The demo is so fast paced that I just hope the full game isn't like that.

This isn't america. No such thing. The only credit rating you can get is a bad one.

However it wouldn't be hard to finance a rig like that on credit, but I have to agree, why would you.

It'll probably pay to play through the first one. It's a great game and you'd be doing yourself a favour to pick up both the original game and the expansions.
If you don't then the previous suggestion for trawling wikipedia for back story would definitely be essential.
