CVG has revealed British fantasy author, Graham Joyce, is going to be the man behind Doom 4's story when the game is eventually released whenever id deems it done.

No other details other than Joyce's involvement were revealed and I can honestly say I've never actually heard of the author or any of his works, but a quick Wiki check up does reveal he's been the recipient of a handful of Fantasy Awards for works such as The Tooth Fairy, Dark Sister, Requiem, Indigo and The Facts of Life (not based on the 80s sitcom), among others.

If anyone has actually read any of Joyce's work, feel free to let us know what we might be in for.

It would be interesting to actually have a half decent plot to one of those martian planet fps games. That's why I was so sucked in by Fallout 3. A good storyline makes it so much more fun.

Everyone always screams for more plot. Why? FPS Games were more fun when there was only a bare minimum storyline and you had to slaughter your way through levels rather than "go here and power up generator, then go uplink your satcom to the satilite and call for reinforcements" style gay objectives. But then again I still think the best FPSs to ever come out were Doom, Blood, and Hexen 2 (ok so that one is slightly more complex but still)

I've always thought that Id games like Quake and Doom were really just a demo of what could be done with the engine. A f*****g fun demo, but doesn't really require a story to be written around it.

I've always though that was just an excuse id used for their bland and uninspired games.

While that's fairly impressive, it's still a modified engine :( The best I saw back in the day was 49m49s, you had to play back the demo in-game on an unmodified v1.9 engine. Actually I think I found it:
In 1997, Thomas 'Panter' Pilger spread throughout the Compet-N tables like a plague. By August, he was the first to do the third DOOM2 episode(Map21-30) on nightmare skill and was primed for the ultimate DOOM2 honor, DOOM2 Schwarzenegger. Almost a year in the making, Thomas 'Panter' Pilger finally achieved the impossible by recording all 32 maps of DOOM2 on 'Nightmare!' skill in one demo in 49:49

What did you expect?
Hopefully that is a boss and not a common mob.

If those demons or whatever can make robot legs, and robot lower body, and robot arms holding guns, why not just make a whole robot instead of having this weak, vulnerable fleshy upper body and head.

Cause then you'd be playing mech warriors

Why can't the demons just look like demons? Worked out pretty well in the first installment?

Yeah me too. Quake 5 i'd say yeah looks about right, but at least ID are somewhat consistant with their monster designs for doom
