MTV.com have an interesting interview with Chris Morgan, screenwriter for the planned Gears of War feature film. While it's pretty scant on specifics, it does at least confirm that they'll be sticking close to the storyline of the games and the already established characters - a something so many video-game movies have strayed from, and in my opinion, have been far worse off because of.
Morgan hinted that the current script would bring "Emergence Day," the initial invasion by alien baddies known as the Locust Horde, to the big screen.

"It would be a crying shame not to deal with Marcus and Dom," Morgan told MTV News. "I would not be interested in the movie if we weren't dealing with them. I want to see those guys. I want to see 'Emergence Day.' I want to see this stuff happen."
Gears of War is to be directed by Len Wisemen (Underworld, Die Hard 4) which already gives it a leg up on other video-game movie efforts.
The director's plan for "Gears of War" is to stay away from an "all-green-screen, all-CGI movie," Morgan said, only using the computer effects for "the big stuff" and certain scenes featuring the Locust.

"In [Wiseman's] mind, he wants to make it as realistic as possible," Morgan said, "and to blur those lines where your mind says, 'Oh, it's a big CGI film.' "
The interview also states that Morgan is an avid gamer and that the most recognizable creatures and the humour-under-fire vibe will also be getting attention.

Considering the Gears games themselves carry that blockbuster feel, this one looks to be right up there with Jerry Bruckheimer's Prince of Persia as a contender for perhaps the first actually decent videogame movie adaptation.

If they can do a sort of those Marvel superhero movie type of story plot and the "you can't distinguish if it's real or CGI-look to it", it'll definitely be a blockbuster waiting to happen.
Hope they don't mess this one up just like what they'ved done to so many other game-to-movie deals.

And definitely on the 7th ( Friday ) I'll take a sickie to get my pre-ordered copy and play this awesome game.
