The first screenshots (and concept art) from Ubisoft Montreal's Prince of Persia have made their way online, offering a good look at what the studio, renowned for their impressive art direction, have in-store for the upcoming reboot to the long running franchise.
This new Prince of Persia marks the debut of the critically acclaimed franchise on next-generation consoles. Developed by Ubisoft’s award-winning Montreal studio and the same all-star team that created the previously acclaimed Prince of Persia® Sands of Time trilogy, Prince of Persia is opening a new chapter in the Prince of Persia universe, featuring a new breed of gameplay. The game is poised to rejuvenate the action-adventure genre in addition to introducing a brand-new illustrative art style.
We're told to expect this one on PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Nintendo DS this holiday season.

brand-new illustrative art style

Is it not just cell shading? Been done before, unless I'm missing something it's hardly brand new.

I would like to say the proof will be in the animation, but even drawn animation in japan look s***house anyway.

Shut the f*** up retard.

Is it just called Prince of Persia or is that a tentative title?

I love the half cel-shaded effect they have going on. It seems like they're aiming for a more open ended environment.

it isn't really cel-shaded as such, it looks more like realistic textures with a certain cel-shaded filter over the top of it and the black outline, looks fkn awesome.. i just don't hope they ruin the game with hell linear gameplay like last time

You clearly haven't seen the trailer to Naruto Ninja Storm on PS3. The animation (that I've seen) in the show is pretty good, but the game animations look absolutely amazing. I'm not a Naruto fan, but I am an animator, and that game has some pretty clued-in animators working on it, not to mention the best implementation of cell shading I've ever seen.

I never said it looked bad, simply that cell shading is not a new technology.

Each game's cell-shading method is built from the ground up to meet the demands of the project. This is a very impressive application of cell-shading, both technically and artisticly, as demonstrated in the overwhelming positive response by the media and the internet. If you're not actively trying to look like an idiot you're doing a very good job anyway.
