Microsoft have
proudly announced that they're the first next-generation console system to hit 10 million sales in the US:
"This year will be the largest in the history of the video game industry, with Xbox 360 leading the charge in the U.S. and abroad," said Don Mattrick, senior vice president of the Interactive Entertainment Business in the Entertainment and Devices Division at Microsoft. "History has shown us that the first company to reach 10 million in console sales wins the generation battle. We are uniquely positioned to set a new benchmark for the industry."
Be interesting to see how many units sold in the last few weeks with the arrival of GTA4. Definitely puts them in a good position in the US at least, although the BBC
recently reported that the PlayStation 3 is doing a little better than the Xbox, at least in recent days.

According to ShackNews, MS later qualified the comment to be next-generation HD consoles.
I expect later in later announcements it will be next-generation HD consoles that don't have Blu-Ray.
