A bunch of sites have been
reporting about the grandmother angry at Rockstar/Take 2 over the recent Hot Coffee thing (you may have heard about it).
A woman upset that she bought the video game "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas" for her 14-year-old grandson without knowing it contained hidden, sexually explicit scenes sued the manufacturer Wednesday on behalf of consumers nationwide.
The suit also apparently states (according to the sfgate.com article) that she bought the game in late 2004 - which would imply that it was the PlayStation 2 version, as the PC version wasn't released until June 2005. Not sure if wires are getting crossed here (including my own), but I would assume that the Hot Coffee mod is PC only and you can't unlock the allegedly included sexually explicit content on the PS2 - right? Anyway, as always, it will be interesting to see where this ends up.

secondly, 14 years old? please, should get thrown out just for that :/

yer this lady must be bloody retarded

Sadly we too are going that way.
You go back country skiing and injure yourself... sue the mountain resort for letting you!! Even tho it was your fault for going out of bounds in the first place. End result they will actively pursue and ban people who go back country/off piste = less fun. People don't take responsibilities for their own actions.

1.) what is a 14yr old doing playing this obviously 18+ game?
2.) why is this kid allowed to download a sex mod on the internet and then hack the game?
ffs dont parents care wtf their kids do anymore?

It's the same s*** with gone in 60 seconds in the uk they had to cut out bits of it all because when it was released in the UK car theft went up like crazy or some s*** along with GTA 3 being rerelased cause there was a sex/rape secne or some s*** in it. If you can't read the Classification on a game dont buy them simple as that or you look and it will say contain explicit content.
You do that Jem make sure you kill george bush while doing so.
Posted 01:58pm 30/7/05
She was not affected by the things being in the game, so is she even allowed to sue!?
All BS. The stuff was in the game files, but not accessable so there is no problem.

14 year old kid... buying a game rated at LEAST m15... The grandma will be sued for exposing her grandson to that content, that she will be found the one responcible because she purchased the game for him. Americans just cannot look past their own noses... Its just "im great because Im from the USA - No one can hurt me or prove me wrong" Typical American Mentality. Her case will be thrown out and then the classification department will file a counter-sue against her, for unintended exposure to a minor...
Pfftt die in hell granny, your time was up years ago, god just hasnt done anything about u because he just hasnt been paying attention to your life, because NO ONE CARES ABOUT YOU!

This furthers my suspicion that the entire QGL message board is written by trog taking on multiple personalities. I don't even know if I am real or not anymore...
And yes, granny should be given a good slapping. Sif buy computer games for a 14 y.o. kid. Give them a stick and a bag of marbles and send em outside for fresh air.

The difference is that they didn't actually leave the content in there. Also, this is definately not an easter egg. Easter eggs are hidden features you can access without needing to 'hack the game'. Big difference.
Admittedly they probably could have crippled the content more. But when you are busy creating a game, working 15 hour days in crunch mode, as long as it doesn't stop the game from working you take the route of least resistance.

You can not disprove the idea that Rockstar intentionally left this in the game, in the hope it would be discovered and increase sales. Which it probably hasn't done.

So what, the content is not accessable in any way shape or form without 3rd party interference.
The 'hot coffee' scenes are nothing more than scraps of game content left on the cutting room floor. To piss and moan about 'hot coffe' is like complaining about a scene that was filmed for a feature film that was edited out for sensorship reasons... The viewer is not meant to see this content in the version that is released to the public, but it still exists even if not physically on the media that the movie is distributed on.
'Hot coffe' in order to be accessed needs the end user to deliberatly take action to view the content. If adult gamers choose to do so then let them, its their conscious decision to do so.
If children are accessing this content then the parents have failed in their duty of care. For starters, the parents have allowed the children access to a game that is not rated for them. The parents have also allowed their children unsupervised access to the internet in order to download the patch, and at the same time Id suggest these unsupervised children may well have accessed pronographic content online. Granted, this is only the case if said children are using the PC version.
The classification system exsists primaraly to protect children form adult content in entertainment products, I would suggest that there are TV programmes that display much more sexually explicit content that are both classified and marketed at the teenage market. Lets explore the hypocracy of the OFLC a little further shall we... heres a clip I came across the other day of a film rated MA15+ some years ago by our very own OFLC... http://www.kontraband.com/show/show.asp?ID=1622 . The clip clearly shows naked breasts and two females engaging in same sex kissing. How is it that this can be allowed in a MA15+ film when a game gets banned for HIDDEN content that only implies sexual acts between male and female characters. They arent even naked for christs sakes.
The whole 'hot coffe' debarkle has been blown way out of proportion, unfortunatley by those who are the most ignorant in regards to gaming... politicians and the media. Its also unfortunate that it is also these people who have the most control over what is seen in media such as games.
I have spent alot of time following this story online and reading/contributing to forums such as this one over that past few weeks. This issue has clearly touched a nerve of many gamers, GTA players or otherwise, worldwide.
It would seem to me that the major cause of the scale of this issue is derrived from ignorance. The perception of gamers worldwide seems to be that we are 8yo boys playing Mario Bors, none of the press that I have seen seems to even acknowledge that gaming is/has fast become a mainstream medium. The average age of a gamer is somewhere from late 20's to early 40's with a fast aproaching even split of the sexes at approx 60/40. The game industry is maturing but the publics perception of it is not.
Then there is the tendancy of the media to balme the actions of any mentally unstable teen on their gaming habbits but never the fact that Daddy's a sex offender and Mummy's a wineo.
The real question is what can we as gamers do to help ourselves? Pissing and moaning on forums read only by gamers is clearly not the answer. Even if I am guilty of it as much as anyone else here.
The whole situation is a Joke, and then to hear that some old cow with dollar signs in her eyes is looking to cash in on the situation, and kcik Take Two while its down is simply unbelievable. And for her to include in her complaint that she handed a M17(US rating) game to a 14yo is nothing short of jaw dropping.
"She is seeking unspecified damages on behalf of herself and all consumers nationwide and demands that the company should give up its profits from the game for what amounted to false advertising, consumer deception, and unfair business practices."
All I can say is what a stupid b****!
To sum up my, and Im sure many of your, feelings toward this issue.... http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=ticket_to_hell

also noticed.
its all been said before "stupid" and "very stupid" come to mind.
that's a fairly stupid comment. yes, they do. otherwise they wouldn't be sueing now would they?
you are joking aren't you? please tell me you are jokeing? i don't think i want to live in a world of people this stupid.
1, violent games will always be popular. even if they are banned. they will just be downloaded from the net. 2, you can't take people seriously when they are making murderous threats. if so then perhaps you are the one with the serious mental instabillity
You can not disprove the idea that Rockstar intentionally left this in the game, in the hope it would be discovered and increase sales. Which it probably hasn't done. i think its almost definantly done. when i heard it was going to be banned i was about to go out and grab a copy myself before it got banned. untill of course i realised i didn't have enough moneys. and from what i heard stock numbers shrunk fairly fast when it got announced. although thats possibily just a rumor.

Sueing over the alleged dry-sex scenes. Never mind the rest of the game. She is only on the bandwagon dude, if she really was shocked I doubt she would have purchesed (or allowed the purchase) the game. If she didnt know what was in it, she should get a clue and LOOK at the box..
