After another disorganised release (dumping a 600mb file on a handful of sites is not a great way to distribute), Desert Combat 0.7 is available for download locally from AusGamers Files. At this stage we're only offering BitTorrent support for the download -
hit the download page to join the torrent.
Update: Regular downloading is now available.

I can't believe this is a 600meg download. I wish they'd stop adding in stupid vehicles and fix up the gameplay. Anyway, I'm grabbing it but they better have made this awesome.

Also, the speed is really slow at the moment. Had this going for over half and hour and only getting 28k a sec. Can someone hack into the net and make it go faster.

Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /battlefield1942/mods/desertcombat/DesertCombat0.7FullInstall.exe on this server.
Would the admins mind pulling their fingers out of collective arses and fix this!! I an't waiting over 2 hours just for the privilege to download this from the 'mo money hoes, that is FilePlanet!! >:(

I know it goes slow for me, and i am not sure how to forward ports (6881-6899 for bt i think) using win2k pro and ics, short of downloading something like winroute pro.
If any one has a step by step guide outlining everything for a noob on win2k pro ics port forwarding, (specifically for bt if possible) i'd appreciate it.

my Smoothwall box used to do pretty much the same thing.
in IE, go to tools-->internet options-->connections-->LAN SETTINGS-->Proxy... advanced tab-->and insert "http://files.ausgamers.com" as an exception. should work fine then

Well it's harder than just using a normal http/ftp style download, and if uploads count (like they do with telstra), then it's extra usage.
And also as i just said if you are on ICS (or behind a firewall) there is the extra added hassle of opening ports etc.

Structure your sentences better, or don't be surprised when people get confused with what you are trying to say.

On a related note its interesting to see that my comments a while back about BT still stand - it completely sucks balls for big releases like this when there are a jillion people that want it and only a few complete seeds. Big being not only popular, but also big as in file size - it'll take ages for any clients to finish the download, and then their pissy little connection will only be able to serve a few more bytes/s back on to the torrent.

Posted 08:00pm 07/2/04
Thats assuming of course they dont just close down the client once they're finished :(

Go back to CS then you tard. Why don't you pull your finger out and search for an alternate mirror if ausgamers doesn't suit you.
Posted 09:13pm 07/2/04
Oh well instead of whinging, ill just wait until i go to bed a 3am should be fine then.
Posted 11:10pm 07/2/04
Then all you need to do is Limit the Tracker server to only tracker clients that match your build.
alternativly ban ips that have a share ration less than .6 or so.
as a rule of thumb i will upload 120% of what i download.
and the only reason why BT dosnt work in the case of these patch's is that the people getting them just want the patch, thats it they dont care if the next person gets it or not.
I cant remember if its called Super Seeding or not, but there is an option to seed that sends a Bit of the file to all thos Peers.
so say 10 people each get 10% of the file
so then they all need to get 90% of the rest of the file off the other 90% of the users with 10%
but bleh.
Bit torrent works, but its only as strong as the users using it.

Bahahahahaha gw Rev! :P
It's actually contrary to that! As in, there are NO new vehicles and the whole thing is all about GamePlay Optimisations!
However, it's 600Mb because it's the full thing...Not an update patch.

Now to install it and see what improvements there are.

but i reckon this is 1 of the best updates for dc cause it has like 1/4 the load times and got rid of lots of the start up laggggg, i might actully pay for the final release if they end up selling it like DOD or CS
Posted 01:23pm 08/2/04
I noticed it disappeared after the latest BF patch and it's still gone from the new DC patch as well. That sucks complete ass if you can't chuck bots into a game now. Is there something I'm missing or is EA a bunch of retards.

Server side based downloading is better in my view .. eg HTTP / FTP / even irc is better ..
Theres plenty of places to get DC .7 then relyin on p2p
eg anyone with dsl pipe access can download it off its free ftp that hosts shareware/freeware/linux and game demos - ftp://ftp.brisbane.pipenetworks.com//.disks/disk2/games/bf1942/mods/desertcombat/DesertCombat0.7FullInstall.exe
internode dsl users can grab it from there ftp mirror ftp://files.games.internode.on.net/firstpersonshooters/b1942/mods/DC/DesertCombat0.7FullInstall.exe
file planet is a little wait but its usually there before other sites

bigponds game download area has good speeds , a friend downloaded it at 300k off testras website

No worries Hermi. Actually, it's still there but you cant use the mouse to scroll through the game modes, have to use the arrow keys. You can click the up and down arrows but it doesn't do anything.
So in summary, co-op is still there.

Posted 04:17pm 08/2/04
You can actually click just above the arrows on the actual bar to get the menu to move, no need to use the keys.

Just remembered what you said as I scrolled down through the game type options with a mouse
What mouse & driver are you using ?
I used to get bulk hassles with Logitechs software when using either a MX 500 or a MX700, then I stopped loading the logitech drivers an no hassle (can't bind specific buttons to other things). (No hassle for me, I just wanted a high precision mouse thats cordless an rechargeable). When using the various Logitech mouse drivers, most games would end up dropping mouse 3 during the middle of a game an I'd have to re-initiate the driver for it to work correctly. I could never find a decent use for the "other bumps(= button) " as they are too close together (made for b****** with small hands I guess). Like I said, what driver an mouse you using ?
